COI issues

edit

I'm glad to see someone else weighing in on the COI edits to autism-related bios; I've been dealing with those mostly on my own. I simply don't have time to watch closely or help too much right now, but I will be watching. Welcome!! Regards, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 17:09, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

It appears that Donna's diagnosis is highly questionable. I didn't know the extent until I saw the ABC.net Australia article [1], and exceptional article interviewing world renowned autism specialist Fred Volkmar of Yale, and William's doctor herself, and a former professor of her who attests to how she was very socially and communicatively functional in the 1980's, and a former friend/acquaintance who observed the apparent intentional adoption and claiming of autism. Yes, I've followed the Williams' issues for a long time on the internet, and I've seen how Wiki has been used inappropriately in a number of autism-related bios, but I've had no one to help me on this. Remember, getting your website on Wiki is a fast track to a high google ranking, so some people spread their bio info and blogs throughout Wiki articles. You're going to have to seriously learn Wiki policies and guidelines to deal with all of this; for example, the AfD you put on Baggs was reverted because you put up the old AfD. I'm dismal at AfD; take time to learn guidelines and policies. You need reliable sources on both the Williams and Baggs issues (take care with WP:BLP statements, even on talk pages). If you post reliable sources to the talk pages, I'll work on them as I have time, but I am really swamped and can't help too much on this. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 18:01, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

For reference (I don't know whether you are referring to me or not, but since I am one of the people described, I figured I'd clarify), I did not add my page to Wikipedia, in fact the first time it was added to Wikipedia I contested its addition because I did not meet the criteria for notability, and because the biographical information posted on it (by someone who was not hostile to me, but was mistaken) was inaccurate. This last time I was told I pretty much did meet the criteria for notability, so I did not contest it (and told someone contesting it on my behalf that I was not contesting it this time), but I have no attachment to having a Wikipedia page, and whether it goes or stays, I'm indifferent, as long as what remains in it is accurate. If you want to keep it there, I won't protest, and if you want to remove it altogether, I will also not protest. Silentmiaow (talk) 20:49, 11 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Also, you've got to spend more time learning Wiki policy; we can't remove items from a bio just because they were added by someone who is biased. If they conform with WP:V, WP:RS, WP:BLP and WP:UNDUE, they stay. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 18:09, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Also, where is the abc.net Australia article? You need to put the link on the talk page; I haven't found it yet. I'll try to work on this tomorrow. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 18:13, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
http://www.abc.net.au/rn/talks/8.30/helthrpt/hstories/hr290796.htm I went back and placed it above in my initial post above as well. It's an extraordinary investigation - extremely exhaustive and with exceptional references, and the references' replies are shown in the Question-Answer format interview.--Appto (talk) 18:37, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Allright, slow down, because you're going about this all wrong, and post that link to the article talk page. The blog sources are not reliable sources. I don't have time for this today; please slow down and learn Wiki policies. And to keep the discussion in one place, use the article talk page. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 18:41, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

I can't keep up with this; now you're copying my posts here to article talk pages. <sigh> I'll check back in after you've learned some guidelines and slow down. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 18:48, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sorry about copying and pasting your entries. I re-did my entry in Donna William's article with only my entries, and under the new section you started "Controversial Diagnosis". I'll now wait until you have time to review things. But as I suspected, with the exception of the ABC.net article on Williams, we will probably have to wait for objective and non-blog media coverage of Baggs before proceeding with anything serious. I included what I did to note that her credibility is highly disputed world wide, and increasing as such.--Appto (talk) 18:58, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

You cannot post an entire article to a talk page; that is a copyright violation. I posted the link. You should remove your copyvio. I am strongly advising you to read WP:BLP and slow down. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 19:04, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ok...I posted only a few excerpts, about 10% of the article, some excerpts grouped together to get a fell for the article...the article itself takes a long commitment and I thought the introduction with some key excerpts would be useful to introduce it.--Appto (talk) 19:17, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
