Et tu?

edit

Yes, I'd noticed your edit on Kitt Peak before, probably for much the same reasons I'd jumped in on the Kitt Peak discussion on BABB. And yes, I tend to plug Wikipedia a lot wherever I go, since I found it. And by the way, while I'm at it, if you'd be so kind (and have sufficient knowledge, which I suspect you do), feel free to contribute to my hopeful overhaul of the astrophotography page at User:JohnOwens/Pet Projects/astrophotography. I'm kind of bumping around in the dark there, figuring things out as I learn them the hard way with my own camera & telescope (which, by the way, was a major contributor to my absence for a while from BABB), and trying to figure things out from basic principles for the other techniques of astrophotography. So any help or experience with methods other than those with which I have first-hand experience, would be greatly appreciated. See you around the BABB! --John Owens (talk) 11:24, 2005 Apr 17 (UTC)

Thanks for your contributions, and in particular for the useful picture Image:Drugsniffingdog.jpg. There's no license tag on this image, I'm wondering if you'd be willing to release it as GFDL (this maintains your copyright but releases all usage rights under the GNU Free Documentation License)? If so, could you place {{GFDL-self}} on the article? If you'd rather not do that, please look over Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for another option. This applies to all the images you've uploaded; I see that most of them have a copyright free use tag, which is fine. Thanks. Chick Bowen 23:47, 17 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Photograph copyrights

edit

Hey Yvette, a small matter has arisen with some of the photos you uploaded on the Wikitravel site that may also apply here. Over there the issue is that the language of the uploads doesn't make it clear that you release the photos for use under the usual ("Copyleft") terms, with the result that they're in danger of getting deleted. (You might drop by and do something about that, btw; wouldn't want those photos to go away.) Is the same thing a problem for anything you've added here? Not clear from the language accompanying the images. The terms of use are different here than on Wikitravel but the principles are similar. -- Bill-on-the-Hill 13:42, 4 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading Image:Chien-ShiungWu.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Help with a translation?

edit

You note that you're a native speaker of Hungarian. Could you check out Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images#15 May and help with a translation? The uploader of an image says that a specific passage of Hungarian law releases all works of the Hungarian government into the public domain, and while I found the Hungarian law, we could use a few opinions from Hungarian speakers on what the law says. Thanks for uploading Image:MMTObservatory.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a free image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Kanyadi.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. Image source problem with Image:AAAPLogo.jpg

Image Copyright problem

This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:AAAPLogo.jpg. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 18:46, 6 September 2007 (UTC). Orphaned non-free media (Image:Norgay.gif)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Norgay.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:43, 15 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. Proposed deletion of File:Homesteadstrike.jpg

The file File:Homesteadstrike.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

unused, low-res, no obvious use

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:00, 20 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
