Speedy deletion nomination of McAfee Antivirus Plus 2011

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on McAfee Antivirus Plus 2011, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. ~~Ebe123~~ (+) talk

Removing Speedy at McAfee Antivirus Plus 2011

edit

Welcome to Wikipedia, thank you for taking the time to create a page here. It might not have been your intention, but you recently removed a speedy deletion tag from a page you created yourself. Because Wikipedia policy does not allow the creator of the page to remove deletion tags, an automated program has replaced the deletion tag you removed from McAfee Antivirus Plus 2011. Please do not continue to remove the deletion tag, instead, if you disagree with the deletion, you can follow these steps:

  1. Go to the page by clicking this link. Once there, select the button that says Click here to contest this speedy deletion.
  2. This will take you to the talk page, where you can make your case by explaining why the page does not meet Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion.

Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do. For further help about the deletion, you could contact the user who first placed the tag or a highly active user who is willingly to help with deletion. This message was left by a bot, so please do not contact the bot about the deletion. Thank you, - SDPatrolBot (talk) 22:57, 22 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Please do not remove speedy deletion notices from pages you have created yourself, as you did with McAfee Antivirus Plus 2011. If you believe the page should not be deleted, you may contest the deletion by clicking on the button that says: Click here to contest this speedy deletion, which appears inside the speedy deletion notice. This will allow you to make your case on the article's talk page. Administrators will consider your reasoning before deciding what to do with the article. Thank you. - SDPatrolBot (talk) 23:04, 22 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

OK, here's the problem - and here's what to do to fix it

edit

Content that you add to Wikipedia must meet the following rule Verifiability - which means that it must have been published somewhere - in the case of the content you are adding, one of the print or online computer magazines is fine. You added that kind of content to Norton AntiVirus. To help other people check that it's what the source said, you add a citation - citations help other people find the source. WP:CITE tells you how to add citations. If you go into the My Preferences tab and select Gadgets, you'll find useful tools to help with citations.

There are two things you can't add to Wikipedia. The first is research you have done yourself. We call this Original Research - read WP:OR to find out more. This is not because people don't believe you, it's because they can't check it without re-doing the research you did.

The second is WP:COPYVIO and WP:PLAGIARISM - copying someone else's work. You can ask your teacher to explain the problems here - you'd get in trouble if you copied an essay from someone else. You can use short quotes, but you can't copy entire articles, and you must give a citation for any quotes.

So you can write articles on these antivirus programs. Find some sources, summarise what the sources say, and use citations to show where the information came from. If you're giving release dates and describing what features are in the software, you can use the company website as a source, but information about performance should come from reviews in the computer magazines.--Elen of the Roads (talk) 10:57, 23 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Panda Pro 2012

edit

The article Panda Pro 2012 has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unremarkable product lacking references.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. reddogsix (talk) 21:45, 23 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

OK, let's see if we can get your attention this way. Since you ignored everything I said above before, you can take a time out and go and read it now. I had to delete the article because:

  • it read like an advert
  • it contained no references
  • it consisted largely of your own opinion
  • it's the third time you've created it within 24 hours
  • and to cap it all, you threatened other users in the article! To wit - you said "If any of you editors try to delete my research and writing, I made backups and I will find you"

So let's try this again. I'm being patient, because you are young, but it won't last if you continue to behave in this manner. Here are the groundrules

  1. Once you hit the Save button, you agree to release your contribution on a free license. This means that anyone can edit it
  2. If you threaten other users, you get blocked
  3. Wikipedia is not a place to publish your research. If you do it again, you will be blocked for longer

Let me know if you understand. Elen of the Roads (talk) 23:04, 23 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
