HoZac Records page deleted??

hello Ale, I'm the founder of Hozac Records and we were delighted to find a HoZac Records page created on Wikipedia but just went back to look at it and saw it has been deleted!! We havent violated any sort of rule, so if there's any possible way to have it re-published, please let me know.

Hi there. The Hozac Records page was deleted because it did not make an assertion of notability - that is, it did not give any reason why the company is any more important than the hundreds of millions of other, tiny companies that do not deserve a page on Wikipedia. This means it meets the criteria for speedy deletion and was deleted.

If you believe the subject is notable, feel free to create the article again, saying why and how the company is notable. Keep in mind that, while a mere assertion of notability is sufficient to prevent speedy deletion, the page can still be deleted in a deletion debate if the subject isn't notable. I think you're mistaken. "Radio play" in itself is vague. It could've gotten one spin on some pirate radio for all we know, so "radio play" is not per se an assertation of notability. If it said "This song received heavy rotation on Sirius" or "It was #1 on the playlists of radio stations in blah blah blah", then yes, that probably would be an assertation of notability. First, admin fishing to try and get an article speedily deleted is bad - very bad. In the future, wait for a response before re-adding the tag. Or more simply, don't do it. Second, an assertion of notability is a lower standard that notability - check the CSD criteria. For a song to be played on a radio, it is more notable than most of the songs invented or sung in the world, by people in their bedrooms or at school etc. Thus, there is an assertion of notability.

I will not decline it a second time, although I possibly should. I do, however, think you're wrong - and believe you should remove the tag yourself and allow the AfD to run. Ale_Jrb^talk 18:40, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi there. First of all, great to see that you created such a script. I pitched such an idea to Amalthea but he is busy at the moment, so I decided to try out your script. Well...I seem to be too stupid to do it. I added it to my monobook.js and skipped the cache as usual but no tab or anything appears. The second script about the deletion reasons appearing as wiki-code works but the helper script does not seem to work. Could you tell me, where the script should be visible on a page and whether it might not work due to other scripts creating additional tabs (although I removed those for a test to no avail) or interfering somehow? Thanks very much for the fix, that script will hopefully make my CSD patrolling much easier. I'd be very grateful if you could change the script to allow me and others to add further reasons - I got a variety of A7 reasons for example that I'd like the script to use but I doubt they will be useful to everyone. PPS: I know, I must be annoying you by now but I'd like to request two more thing that I think are essential: 1.) When selecting G12 from the dropdown, one should be able to provide the source/URL the content was copied from (preferably the script should take it from the G12 tag if present). Do you think you have the nerve to add such an option? 2.) When a page has a talk page, do you think it would be possible to add an option like "Delete respective talk page as well"? Hey. You can already change the page that is redirected to after the deletion. For the page you're viewing, use var redirectAfterDel = wgServer + '/wiki/' + wgPageName;

I've been meaning to make it possible to delete the talk page for a while, but haven't got round to it. Maybe soon. I'll look into the copyvio thing. Arbitrary break

Hi Alexander, there seems to be a minor bug in your script, when people use esoteric deletion tags like {{speedydelete}}, because your pattern doesn't recognize them, so the script will stop working when trying to determine the tagger. decltype (talk) 11:03, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

I think the same applies to {{delete}} as well. To achieve complete functionality, you probably need to make the script check for all redirects (see here). Probably annoying to fit them all in there though :-/ Regards SoWhy 12:59, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

Yup. I've fixed it, and it should now detect all the speedy deletion templates. It also detects talk pages, and gives you the option to delete them; will run without the deletion options for non-admin users, and won't say 'declined'; has better handling of user-added decline options, even when they have the same deletion code and a few other fixes. Nice work on that, I will see to updating my version although if I could bother you with two more feature requests, that might not be needed anymore. First one is easy, I think the script should accept an array of custom made deletion reasons the same way it accepts an array of decline reasons, to allow people to add special nuances of the criteria without having a full-blown list for everyone. Second idea is a bit more complicated but is the reason why I created my own version in the first place. You see I have always used "decline speedy - reason" as a syntax and that allows me to write scripts that determine how many speedies I have declined simply from the edit summary but your script uses a different wording. So my idea/request would be to allow people to define their own edit summaries when declining, something like

var myEditSummary = 'decline speedy - %CRITERION% does not apply: %REASON%';

In that example, I hope it's clear, people can write their own edit summary, adding the criterion it was tagged for and the decline reason wherever they like using %CRITERION% and %REASON% placeholders. I know it's not really needed but do you think you could think about including such features if you got some time on your hands? Regards SoWhy 06:25, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

I have no problem with people having their own 'version', or even completely changing it, if they can be bothered to maintain it. I'll definitely look into fixing the edit summaries. I was intending to do something similar when I got round to it anyway, so it's no big deal.

You may or may not have noticed, but changing the deletion reasons is not a 'missing feature' - I deliberately left it out, for the same reason you can't type your own deletion reason like you can for declining. It may just be my personal view of CSD, but if you can't find a deletion reason on the list, you really shouldn't be speedy deleting the page. Either way, I shall consider it. Yes, I noticed but there are many different wordings that fit the criteria and still it would be unnecessary for everyone to have them (for example, the version I personalized has 6 different A7 wordings that are all valid and I can think of many G6 wordings that a specialized admin might use for example when cleaning up). Maybe your script could accept others but only if provided with a criterion to go with it. After all, using the script does not free admins from choosing policy-based reasons for deletion and they can still break policy using the delete-tab if that is their goal. Thanks, heh. :) Just a point - in your csdreasons.js page, you list all the A7s - I actually added these to the main list a while ago, so you probably have them twice, as with the blatant hoax (your options will be at the bottom of the list). Bug?

Hi again! I just updated to your new version, but unfortunately had to roll back, because the user did not get properly notified (from a regular db-tag). I'm sure it's just a minor issue. In another instance, the script failed to remove the hangon tag (IIRC it's supposed to do that). The article looked like this: [1]. decltype (talk) 06:35, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

Yikes - it worked on my test wiki! The hangon failed because it had a {{hangon|reason=random}} thing on it; I'll have to make it check for that. What happened when it (didn't) notify? This is a tricky situation. If I had a funky bug tracker, I would probably WORKSFORME at this point - I can't replicate the error: it won't break! I got the current version of IE7 off the MS website, put it in an XP virtual machine, and it still worked fine on both my test wikis and in my sandbox. I can't remember the exact version number. Because of certain other restrictions at my "second home", I am unable to upgrade or use a different browser. I'll test the latest version tomorrow, it may have started working again. Anyway, I really appreciate the effort. New Page

Hello,

I created a page for ConforMIS yesterday and I saw that you deleted it. I wanted to find out why, since other knee replacement companies are on Wikipedia, and ConforMIS does bring new information. It created the only personalized knee implants, which provides patients with a lot of personal benefits such as less pain and a faster recovery, and seems like the type of surgery that they should know about, especially since there are over 500,000 knee replacements done every year.

Status Check

Hi there. Just noticed your new script, great idea. Definitely useful. Minor thing though, could it be modified so that people can choose where the message is displayed? Currently it's for example on top of the E-Mail this user link and on my netbook (which has a 1024x600 resolution), it's outside the browsing window. Since you already seem to do it with variables, could you allow people to define win_pos, win_left and win_top (and, maybe, new win_bottom or win_right) variables to allow custom placing? Sometimes I am. But so are you. Good to see that but I for example would like to have the message at the top right corner and I would not use "left: 20px" but "right: 20px" but the new variable you added allows only defining as top and left, never as right or bottom. Do you think you can enhance it to allow people to place it relative to the bottom or right as well? The defining variable could look like this: ar statPosition = new Array(, , 20, 20); (for "left, top, right, bottom => right: 20px; bottom: 20px;). If it's not too annoying to implement of course. Blue Fringe

Ale jrb, I see you speedy deleted Blue Fringe. I would ask that you restore it and put it through a normal delete process.
I agree with you that the article was poorly written and did not establish notability but I believe it can be repaired. From what I am aware of the band is notable under WP:BAND criterion 1 & 7.

The article was deleted not because it is not notable, but because it did not make an assertion of why it was notable. However, as any user in good standing can contest a speedy deletion, even after the article has been deleted, I have restored it as requested. Nimansoft

I want to know why did you delete Nimansoft. I find it unfair as why the heck is Microsoft on wikipedia. We are a fully functional company already creating video games under our old name and are a profitable organisation which you deleted for some reason. Can you please tell me why as this is truly unfair. Our legal representitive said what we have done is fine and a formal complaint will be made if no comment/ help/ reason is given by this unfair judgement of yours. CSDH and User:SDPatrolBot

Hi again Alex!

I noticed earlier today that poor SDPatrolBot is sometimes taking the heat when speedies are declined/contested by CSDH (and the tagger is unnotified), because it reinstates tags removed by the page creator. CSDH decided on who to notify by finding the last editor to add a CSD tag to the page. I can exempt the bot from being notified quite quickly (probably), but it may be some time before I get around to altering it so that it finds the next editor. Ale_Jrb^talk 19:05, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

Craic

Hi, I noticed you speedy deleted Craic under G6 ("technical deletions") last May. Can you remember the reason why? I'd like to re-instate it (as a redirect to Crack (craic)) since a) the article on the word says that craic might be the more dominant spelling and b) several articles link to the deleted article.

Did nothing, went to a page nommed for speedy deletion in IE8 and I didn't even get the "speedy" tab, which I did in Google Chrome. - Kingpin¹³ (talk) 06:59, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
