You notified me that you were wikifying my article, but it is not visible in the search yet. How can I get that to happen? Will it happen automatically?
- I had placed a {{wikify}} tag on the page to indicate to others that wikifying was needed. The process does not happen automatically. Actual humans need to do this. Alan Liefting 00:30, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

- I was not calling the Bible itself nonsense in this instance - I was calling the article which was created a candidate for deletion since it contained nonsense. I have opinions on the Bible but this is not the place for it. Alan Liefting 01:23, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
Semi-protection notice question
Hi there, Alan.
You added a protection template to 69 (sex position of it being semi-protected. An IP vandalized it, so I was curious and found no protection in the log. I don't see that you're a sysop[1][2], so...what's up? Teke 04:25, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- No problem. Since your account is so old, I thought I might have missed something. To request a page protection, head on over to requests for page protection. If it is urgent, to prevent vandalism and not edit wars, the easiest way is to take a gander at the protection log or really any other admin log to see who's around. Drop them a note and explain why it might be immediate if the process wonking will be too slow. We're always around to help. Well, I keep odd hours...but anyway, happy editing to you! You bring the vandalism back
Welcome to Wikipedia. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to our encyclopedia. At least one of your recent edits, the one you made to List of environmental issues, was neither helpful nor constructive and has been reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox for any test edits you would like to make, and take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. New task force
Hi Alan! A few editors are getting together to create a task force with the goal of making sure environmental records of corporations and politicians are accurately and efficiently represented in relevant entries. Given your environmental edits, I thought I'd bring your attention to this project. If you think it's a good idea, please consider chiming in on the discussion page. We hope to have a task force page up soon and of course you would be a VERY welcome addition to the effort!Benzocane 20:37, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Upcycling Temporary Page, by Jo9100 (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Upcycling Temporary Page is a test page.
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Upcycling Temporary Page, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Upcycling Temporary Page itself. Hakob the Armenian
Hey. I'd have appreciated you asking me to expand it first rather than going down the afd route -I'd have been glad to expand it and reference it accordingly to stress some kind of notability. Notability is not an issue here -he is the chairman of the Green Union of Armenia -an active campaign group - it was just a poor stub thats all. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 09:37, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
- My AfD nomination is no longer valid now that you have moved it to its correct name and updated the article. I have asked for it to be withdrawn. Alan Liefting 10:09, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
OK thanks. You were right it that Akop didn;t receive many hits but his correct name is Hakob which kind of brought it to light. As you can see it has now been developed -but I'd always appreciate you just asking me personally to try to expand it first- and if not then place it at AFD afterwards. Thanks for identifying it anyway -no longer a stub. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 10:16, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
- I don't check the article history before placing an AfD to see if there is someone who is a major contributor. Comes from patrolling the new pages I guess - new editors make numerous edits to articles that end up being speedily deleted. In this case there was no one editor that seemed to be a major contributor. Alan Liefting 10:21, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
Hey no probs - I see you are part of the environmental work on wikipedia -something I am also very interested in - keep up the good work. All the best in NZ ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 10:23, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

Cool Globes
The focus of the project absolutely does not solely belong to "Category:Environment of the United States." Each work of art is a GLOBE, not a map of the US, and its focus is how to reduce GLOBAL WARMING . The guidebook for the exhibit says " "Cool Globes:Hot ideas for a Cooler Planet was created to inspire and empower the public to take action against global warming." (page 5) This makes it clear that it belongs in category Envonmentalism. This project includes 122 globes, most of which include ideas for saving energy, to reduce global warming, and seems to fit the category "Energy conservation" as well as the other 70 articles linked to that category. Artists of the globes have explicitly said the focus is energy conservation, as in [3]. Edison 16:22, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
- You have not shown that "Cool Globes" with its stated focus on "Global warming" is appropriately categorized only as "Category:Environment of the United States." You have not argued convincingly that it is inappropriate to categorize it as "Environmentalism" and as "Energy conservation." Wikipedia does not have limited server space for linking a major public art display to those categories it is related to. It is IN the US but its focus is clearly the world, and every country is included in each exhibit. It is not done exclusively by people from Chicago or even the US, per their website [4] Edison 22:53, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

tendentious definition
Mr.Alan; You tagged my article about "tendentious definition" to be deleted. It could help other students like me who wanted to read more about tendentious definition. whats the reason?

Wikipedia:Press Coverage
Hi Alan. Your posting re Air New Zealand manipulating the Erebus crash article is appreciated, because when they were pushing their barrow it seemed I was the only wikian fighting them. One point tho, you say the "article also lists three cases where computers used by New Zealand organisations have altered entries on Wikipedia that relate to those organisations". I couldn't find that info in the Press report. Was it in an earlier/later edition? Moriori 00:03, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

List
List of Roman Catholic priests accused of sex offenses should be deleted because it contains priests that are innocent or currently under investigation - it is a notable topic. It is also an unimportant topic to make a list out of when considering there is no List of rabbis accused of sex offenses or any other occupation. I advise you put the page up for deletion. Crashloans 02:20, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
- The list is appropriate considering the level of media coverage on the issue. I had simply removed the list from the article Roman Catholic sex abuse cases. If you read my comment at Talk:List of Roman Catholic priests accused of sex offenses you would see my stance on the article name. A List of rabbis accused of sex offenses is a possible article if it was notable. -- Alan Liefting talk 02:26, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
- You are most welcome to put the page up for deletion yourself. Getting a wider discussion will help with finding out whether the article deserves to exists or not. -- Alan Liefting talk 03:00, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
- Note that the article is about those accused of sex offences so it can cover those who claim innocence or judged as not guilty by the courts and it is irrelevant whether those on the list are under investigation. WP has got nothing to do with current court cases. Your reasons for deletions will not pass muster in the WP:AFD process. -- Alan Liefting talk 20:56, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
Well, the problem with your stance is that you want it be those who were convicted, yet the list includes people who were falsely accused and never brought to trial. The list makes no distinction of this. Crashloans 17:25, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
- The list is currently about those accused of sex offences so even if they were falsely accused it is still an accurate list with respect to its name. As I outlined on the talk page I would like to see the list to be notable cases of those who are convicted of the sex offences. This would be a shorter list and of more use to WP. As an editor you are most welcome to make the name change and check to make sure all the entries reflect the name change. It would certainly be a better list if each entry had annotations. I will put it on my to do list if it is not done. -- Alan Liefting talk 20:36, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Hello
Why did you give me a link to WP:TALK? Removing comments from own user talk pages is explicitly allowed. Reinistalk 21:36, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
- My reading of WP:TALK is that removing comments is allowed but is poor form. WP:USER#Removal of warnings is with respect to warning templates (vandalism etc) and not comments that you do not like. In the case of the edits that I pointed out it is of little consequence since they are personal issues. Some of your recent edits goes against the spirit if not the letter of WP guidelines and policy. -- Alan Liefting talk 21:46, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
- Both WP:TALK and WP:USER are very clear that you can remove comments, and I don't think you have any business going around policing others about what you think is good form or not. G'day! Reinistalk 21:58, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
- I am not saying the you cannot remove comments - I aid it was poor form. Let me tack a different tack - how about you make the comments on talk pages about procedure and article contents. This is my business because there has been an edit war on the Creationism article because of a clash of personalities between at least three editors.
- Both WP:TALK and WP:USER are very clear that you can remove comments, and I don't think you have any business going around policing others about what you think is good form or not. G'day! Reinistalk 21:58, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

Accused
It is very false POV to create a page to have a list of people who were accused of sex offenses and make no distinction between those that are guilty, falsely accused, or pending investigation. Whoever created the list did so in an attempt to confuse people into believing innocent victims of false accusation are guilty of the crime. The list should be deleted, there is no other list like it on wikipedia. Crashloans 14:51, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

Renewables etc.
I noticed you removed the categories of 'Sustainability' and 'Climate change' from Renewable energy in Scotland - I imagine you are tidying up these rather cluttered categories. I have created 'Climate change in Scotland' as a new category within the underpopulated 'Category:Climate change by country', and a new 'Category:Sustainable practices by country'. The latter is only populated by 'Scotland' at present , although clearly there are lots of other candidates for both if further re-organisations are taking place. Ben MacDui (Talk) 09:41, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah. We are at a middle stage between not having enough articles for a new category and and having a smattering of articles that do not belong in a high level category. Yep, its good that you have created a new category that can now be populated. -- Alan Liefting talk 07:52, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

I noticed you removed some of the links in the Conservation page. I am putting them back. There are over 200 articles linked to that page - quite a few of the links need to be directed to wildlife conservation, so there is a common understanding that it is included in this selection of topics. Footnote questions
Hi, Alan
I've seen some of your contributions in the past and appreciate them. One today - re Richard St. Barbe Baker - may be an improvement on my reference/footnote addition. But it leaves me with a question, and perhaps you can help me.
With biographies (and perhaps with other kinds of articles), blocks of information may be drawn from a single source (as with the Richard S.B.B. bio) or may be an interweaving of information from two, three, or more sources. Footnoting in either case can present a challenge.
With patchworked material, footnotes (properly speaking) may apply to two or three portions of a single sentence - but putting them in the sentence may be a little distracting to the reader.
With multiple paragraphs coming from a single source, I see a problem and its this: it may be hard for a reader to understand or believe that the previous, say, six or ten paragraphs do in fact come from a single source unless we tell them so (as I tried to do).
I'm not upset by the alteration you made; it may be the proper and best thing. But I'd appreciate your knowledge and thoughts on this.
Sincerely (from Canada),

License tagging for Image:Euphorbia glauca.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Euphorbia glauca.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Association of Belarusian Guides
I removed the environment link from the Association of Belarusian Guides because it goes to a disamig page and there is no suitable WP page for it. Why did you revert it? -- Alan Liefting talk 18:24, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
- I reverted it because you delinked it, rather than the correct (and polite) redirect to where it does belong. I see you've done that now, thanks for that. Chris 20:55, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
- WP does not have a suitable article for every noun in the English language and this is the case with "environment". I felt that no link is better than a link to a disambig page. -- Alan Liefting talk 22:12, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

ecolabel
Hi Alan, thanks for your comment and introduction. If we consider the example of organic food, The open directory project has an external link on that page. We follow a similar approach tied to a specific focus: labels. Our section on organic where we have suggested a link lists independent information on 61 organic labels. Although it is a section of our site, it is in itself still the largest global source of information on organic labels. That is the reason we think it merits a link. Jacobmalthouse (talk) 23:41, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
- WP policy is to try and restrict external links on articles to the most relevant otherwise too many get added. The ecolabelling site links should be restricted to labelling and certification articles rather than other environmental articles. -- Alan Liefting-talk- 00:14, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

Consensus in the AFD was to delete outright without userfying. However, I will userfy it anyway, but if it's not fixed up it could be redeleted. --Coredesat 21:35, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

Nice to see someone finally showing an interest in this again. I had been wondering what to do with it.-gadfium 18:46, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
accusation?
my "vandalism" was deletion of previous, genuine, vandalism. please check your facts before you bandy about accusations like this. --Miagw 21:24, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
Hi Alan, I've been doing some work on this article and would like to take it up to GA status. But the prose is not so good and there may be other improvements which someone like you could make. Would be grateful if you could look it over please... Johnfos 01:59, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:The Hollow Men book cover.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:The Hollow Men book cover.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Speedy deletion of Maryland's School
A tag has been placed on Maryland's School requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. —Jonathan 02:12, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
