Avoid overlinking

edit

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Among other things, it instructs us not to link the larger geographic unit when geographic places are specified with the name of the larger territorial unit following a comma. In other words, write "Baridhara, Dhaka" and "Sylhet, Bangladesh" not "Baridhara, Dhaka" and "Sylhet, Bangladesh". Please see Wikipedia's guideline on links to avoid overlinking. Thank you. --Worldbruce (talk) 16:49, 11 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Worldbruce Okay. Can i link the word 'Bangladeshi'? Ahmed Reza Khan (talk) 17:45, 11 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
I haven't removed links to Bangladeshi, although I don't think adding them is particularly useful. Some editors would remove the link as an example of major nationalities (see MOS:OVERLINK). Bangladesh is the eighth most populous country, so arguably more major than three of the four examples the guideline gives (British, Japanese, Turkish, and Nigerian). Also note that Bangladeshi, linked or not, doesn't belong in the infobox for people born in Bangladesh (who can be assumed to be Bangladeshi unless otherwise stated) only for people born elsewhere (in historical British India or Pakistan, for instance) who are now Bangladeshi, per WP:INFONAT. --Worldbruce (talk) 18:18, 11 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
