Interview request: Your interactions with new editors in Wikipedia

edit

I'm contacting you about a study that I'm running with TheOriginalSoni exploring newcomer mentorship activities in Wikipedia. I'd like to ask you a few questions about your interactions with newcomers and to explore how a tool like WP:Snuggle might make your work easier. The interview and demo session will take 30 minutes to an hour depending on how much time we spend discussing things. If you're interested, let me know. If not, disregard this message and I won't bother you again.

Thanks for your consideration. --EpochFail (talkcontribs) 18:01, 26 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Template edit

edit

Gday. I think something might have gone wrong here with this edit of yours [1]. The template data now seems to appear in the articles in which the infobox is used (for instance pls see Ricky Ponting. I'm not sure how to fix it though so can you pls have a look? Thanks. Anotherclown (talk) 23:09, 11 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Someone has now reverted your edit, but articles which carry the template seem to need purging if they have been opened with the messed-up template in place. There are many thousand articles that use this template, so please do not change it without discussing it first at WP:CRIC. Thank you. Johnlp (talk) 23:24, 11 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
Echo will notify me automatically when one of my edits is reverted. Any explanation for a revert I can read in the edit summary. In case I feel the need to discuss that explanation I can find the talk page of the article or template. And yes, Wikipedia is the encyclopedia everyone can edit. Thanks for reaching out. I do enjoy Wikipedia. I hope you do to and share the pleasure. Ad Huikeshoven (talk) 14:48, 12 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Your experience with Teahouse

edit

Hello Ad Huikeshoven,

I am working on a project to support the development of current and future newcomer mentorship programs on Wikipedia.

Because you recently participated in the Teahouse, I would like to interview you about your experience in this program.

If you are interested, please email me at gmugar [at] syr.edu and hopefully we can find a convenient time to conduct an interview via Skype or Google hangout.

Thanks,

Your opinion please

edit

Hi Ad, I just joined Wikipedia so probably I will make some mistakes here and there. I would like to discuss my idea of creating a teaching aid in the subject area of food technology (food fermentation to be precise). I saw that you have an interest in education aspects, and that you have a technology background. Could you please interact with me on this topic? I guess I would find tyour response in my talk page? Wagfermwp (talk) 08:54, 31 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi Wagfermwp. On Wikipedia it is customary to add new topics at the bottom of an user talk page, not on top. Next to the 'Edit' tab you'll find a "New section" tab designed for this purpose. A second custom is to respond on the page where the topic has started and not to jump around. You might want to take a look at Wikipedia:Teahouse which is a place that welcomes newcomers and people willing to answer your questions. Ad Huikeshoven (talk) 14:32, 31 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Wikimania 2016: IdeaLab Workshops

edit

Wikimania 2016 is almost here! Mjohnson (WMF) and I are running two workshops for IdeaLab during the conference, and you are invited to join us for either (or both!)

If you have a proposal or idea you are thinking about, and would like a space to work on it on your own or with others, please consider joining us for either the Thursday or Saturday sessions. We'll discuss a little about IdeaLab and how it works, and the rest of the time is space for idea building. You can also use this session to ask questions about Wikimedia Foundation grants that are available if your proposal or idea may need funding. Thanks, and see you at the conference! Proposed deletion of Linda Adams (GTI)

edit

The article Linda Adams (GTI) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Doesn't meet WP:BIO or WP:GNG

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Inviting a new user to the Teahouse?

edit

I returned to the project earlier this month after a few years away, so my memory on some things may be faulty. I thought there was a standard template that an editor could place on another's talk page to direct a newbie to the teahouse, where excellent folks such as yourself could help them. I see that Hostbot still does this in an automated manner, but twice this month I've seen users who could use such an invitation. I don't know if they never received them or did and deleted them without knowing or what. I would just like to be able to say, "Go here, they'll help," in the same way. Thanks. Speedy deletion nomination of Wikipedia:Set knowledge free

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Wikipedia:Set knowledge free, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. assume that you try to be humorous when you stay stuff like Wikipedia is CC-BY-SA. The BY clause is about attribution. IMHO discoverers of chemical elements deserve attribution. The Tennessine article mentions anonymous members of a team who discovered this element. There is no reason for anonimity here: the subject is known and does not want to be anonymous. Not mentioning her there is a failure to attribute.? WBGconverse 12:27, 2 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Personal attack

edit

I note that, right before coming to my talk page, you felt the need to describe me as "a serial hounding harasser. ", even though the Arbs agreed that the evidence for this was very thin, and the RfA showed that many people had issues with my adminning style, but rather few claims about me being a "serial hounding harasser" were made. It is rather ironic how many people, in the name of the defense of civility and so on, feel the need to make personal attacks. Please ask some admin to revdel your edit summary and to remove other similar personal attacks, if you have made them. Please also, if this is really your opinion of me, stay away from my talk page where you somehow felt the need to post questions about the WMF plans for admins. It is borderline baiting behaviour. Fram (talk) 11:52, 1 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

I noticed this diff. [2] You cannot post edit summaries like that. It is needlessly hostile and a personal attack. If you agree, I will delete the edit summary, and this issue is finished. If you don't agree, I may raise the issue for community discussion. Because I've been active in the discussions about Fram I won't delete the edit summary (as I normally would) unless you agree to it. Jehochman Talk 13:30, 1 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Jehochman: You can delete the first sentence of the edit summary and retain "The CH WG has interesting recommendations." Ad Huikeshoven (talk) 13:50, 1 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. I really appreciate you being agreeable. I'm not sure we have fine control over edit summaries. I think it's all or nothing. I'll see what I can do. Jehochman Talk 13:54, 1 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
