Wikipedia Ambassador Program is looking for new Online Ambassadors

edit

Hi! I noticed your activity as a Good Article reviewer, and wanted to let you know about the Wikipedia Ambassador Program, and specifically the role of Online Ambassador. We're looking for friendly Wikipedians who are good at reviewing articles and giving feedback to serve as mentors for students who are assigned to write for Wikipedia in their classes.

If you're interested, I encourage you to take a look at the Online Ambassador guidelines; the "mentorship process" describes roughly what will be expected of mentors in the coming term. If that's something you want to do, please apply!

You can find instructions for applying at WP:ONLINE. The main things we're looking for in Online Ambassadors are friendliness, regular activity (since mentorship is a commitment that spans several months), and the ability to give detailed, substantive feedback on articles (both short new articles, and longer, more mature ones).

I hope to hear from you soon.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 20:43, 20 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Autopatrolled

edit

Hello, this is just to let you know that I have granted you the "autopatrolled" permission. This won't affect your editing, it just automatically marks any page you create as patrolled, benefiting new page patrollers. Please remember:

  • This permission does not give you any special status or authority
  • Submission of inappropriate material may lead to its removal
  • You may wish to display the {{Autopatrolled}} top icon and/or the {{User wikipedia/autopatrolled}} userbox on your user page
  • If, for any reason, you decide you do not want the permission, let me know and I can remove it
If you have any questions about the permission, don't hesitate to ask. Otherwise, happy editing! Acalamari 18:54, 26 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

|listas=

edit

Hi!

I notice you have added a few sort values to |listas=. Thank you very much for your contributions.

It appears that you are working from the top of Category:Biography articles without listas parameter, an area that contains a lot of names that are Arabic or based on Arabic. Please review the Arabic naming conventions and the rules for sort values. All must begin with a capital letter, for example. It is almost unfortunate that if you do more than a few hundred of these you will learn more about the naming conventions of various cultures than you thought there was to know.

Thank you again.

JimCubb (talk) 23:54, 8 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

No problem. I caught the ones that weren't capitalized because I noticed there were (and) are Biography articles after "Zz". There were just over 125 when I first checked.

The "bad" news is that, occasionally, some one in a patronymic naming culture (Dad's name is "Dad son of Grandpa"; Grandpa's name is "Grandpa son of Great-Grandpa") will switch to using a surname. This can only be caught by the names of the children. ("Person son of Dad" is the son of "Dad son of Grandpa", the very famous widget maker. His oldest son, "Son son of Dad" is a very famous post-production assistant.)

Have fun!

March 2011 GAN backlog elimination drive a week away

edit

WikiProject Good Articles will be running a GAN backlog elimination drive for the entire month of March. The goal of this drive is to bring the number of outstanding Good Article nominations down to below 50. This will help editors in restoring confidence to the GAN process as well as actively improving, polishing, and rewarding good content. If you are interested in participating in the drive, please place your name here. Awards will be given out to those who review certain numbers of GANs as well as to those who review the most. On behalf of my co-coordinator Wizardman, we hope we can see you in March. MuZemike delivered by MuZebot 00:40, 22 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

The General (1926 film)

edit

Hello, I was wondering whether you could check this article against the B class criteria. I'm not a member of wikiproject film so i have no experience with the accepted standards of the project and so if you could let me know if the article requires anything more other than additional citations i'd appreciate it greatly,

thx, --Macarenses (talk) 14:17, 25 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Survey

edit

Hi 97198!

I have put together a survey for female editors of Wikipedia (and related projects) in order to explore, in greater detail, women's experiences and roles within the Wikimedia movement. It'd be wonderful if you could participate!

It's an independent survey, done by me, as a fellow volunteer Wikimedian. It is not being done on behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation. I hope you'll participate!

Just click this link to participate in this survey, via Google!

Any questions or concerns, feel free to email me or stop by my user talk page. Also, feel free to share this any other female Wikimedians you may know. It is in English, but any language Wikimedia participants are encouraged to participate. I appreciate your contributions - to the survey and to Wikipedia! Thank you! WikiProject Good articles (Participant Clean-Up)

edit

Hello, you are receiving this message because you are currently a participant of WikiProject Good articles. Since the creation of the WikiProject, over 200 user's have joined to help review good article nominations and contribute to other sections of the WikiProject. Over the years, several of these users have stopped reviewing articles and/or have become inactive with the project but are still listed as participates. In order to improve communications with other participants and get newsletters sent out faster (newsletters will begin to be sent out monthly starting in October) all participants that are no longer active with the WikiProject will be removed from the participants list.

If you are still interested in being a participant for this WikiProject, please sign your user name here and please help review some articles so we can reduce the size of the backlog. If you are no longer interested, you do not need to sign your name anywhere and your name will be removed from the participants list after the deadline. Remember that even if you are not interested at this time, you can always re-add your name to the list whenever you want. The deadline to sign your name on the page above will be November 1, 2012. Thank-you. 13:20, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

Update for: WikiProject Good articles (Participant Clean-Up)

edit

Sorry for having to send out a second message but a user has brought to my attention that a point mentioned in the first message should be clarified. If user's don't sign on this page, they will be moved to an "Inactive Participants" list rather then be being removed from the entire WikiProject. Sorry for any confusion.--Dom497 (talk)15:10, 22 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
