I noticed your vandalism fighting efforts and decided to stop by. I suggest you create an account, which lets you edit under a username to avoid getting confused with someone else, edit semi-protected pages after 10 edits and 4 days, use more advanced tools such as Twinkle and RedWarn, and more. 2NumForIce (speak|edits) 17:42, 20 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

AIV

edit

Hey! Just thought I'd let you know that I removed your stricken AIV report. Based on your filter logs it looks like you had to strike the report because it wouldn't let you remove the report. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 19:08, 25 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, I saw that you removed it. Thanks! 73.67.145.30 (talk) 19:09, 25 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
No problem! Given that you were able to remove your other report just fine, I'd assume the filter checks to see if the report has been applied to if its your own, or maybe it doesn't see it as your own anymore once people have replied to it. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 19:12, 25 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Tripping the edit filter

edit

Hi there. I see you're a hard-working patroller; and I thank you for your help! I noticed you've been triggering the edit filter, perhaps due to your rapid-fire edits. Have you considered creating an account? It would be a shame to lose you to friendly fire! --Hadal (talk) 18:42, 1 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

BTW, this is a real danger, as I once got blocked whilst doing RC patrol as an IP. I never actually noticed at the time though, since the IP got reassigned before I next tried to edit. Mako001 (C)  (T)  🇺🇦 02:12, 14 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I've also been blocked on IPs before while RC patrolling, but IIRC, it was only due to collateral damage of other vandals. I used to use my T-mobile hotspot for my internet access, which is 172.56.0.0/16 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) and 172.58.0.0/16 (talk · contribs · WHOIS), and mobile networks are often a major target for vandals and block-evaders.... 73.67.145.30 (talk) 02:41, 14 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

/64 you reported

edit

I have blocked them for a year now. Just remember that I was responding to what the bot reported with my earlier comment ... it isn't context-sensitive (not now, anyway) and couldn't have told me what you did. Daniel Case (talk) 04:41, 13 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

I know, I can't edit WP:AIV/TB2, so I decided to report it to the user-report section... :-) I'll create an account one of these days, which will make things like that easier for me to respond to in the future... 73.67.145.30 (talk) 04:42, 13 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

AIV reports

edit

Just a note on AIV reports, don't use the templates like that, as it gives the appearance that an admin has reviewed it, even if you use (Non-administrator comment) or similar. The thing is, that, whilst users may comment on AIV reports, non-admins (as you would be aware) can't actually block users or take the action needed by an AIV report, which by definition, requires admin action.

In that particular case, I could have warned them, but decided that WP:RBI was the best course of action, hence, no warnings. Warning is often a prerequisite to blocking, but some cases are clear cut enough that it is better to just deny recognition and go straight to blocking.

Adding a note below a report (without using an "official" response template) may be OK, so long as it isn't trying to make a definite judgement on the outcome. Commenting like: "User doesn't seem to have been warned?" or "This user is coordinating vandalism with my report from above." or "May need to block a larger range as other /64 ranges have been blocked, but they have evaded it." Anyway, cheerio and happy patrolling! 🙂 Mako001 (C)  (T)  🇺🇦 02:30, 14 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Mako001: Yeah, both of those users were blocked anyway by @Ad Orientem:. Duly noted about the AIV templates.
Fightfasicsm8903 (talk · contribs) was obviously clear-cut vandalism, I just put that template there because there were admins not taking action on that report who had already been patrolling AIV. I wasn't really sure what the deal was with Foreign Relations of Raid (talk · contribs). The most disruptive part of their edits appeared to be them replacing "Kandahar" with "Debaltseve" and "Unicornese", with the latter obviously not being a real place. Although disruptive, they weren't adding profanity or excessive characters to pages. Anyhow, they're blocked now anyway so it's all good... :-) 73.67.145.30 (talk) 02:39, 14 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Bit of advice

edit

Be judicious in adding comments at AIV. It's rarely necessary outside of complex cases or where there is otherwise something that's easy to miss; it's also generally fine to bring immediate attention to cases where edits are not vandalism, but as a matter of etiquette you should do so without using {{AIV}}.

In most circumstances where commentary is appropriate you will also want to provide a ping or {{talkback}} for the original reporter as people will often remove reports on their own once issues are brought to their attention.

Superfluous clerking has a tendency to perturb and as with other specialized highly structured venues, less is often more. Not a big deal, just something to be mindful of going forward. 74.73.224.126 (talk) 02:50, 14 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

AIV note

edit

Hello! We appreciate your efforts towards removing vandalism from Wikipedia! However, I have noticed that you have manually removed vandals from the WP:AIV that have since been blocked. However, we have a bot who does this for us and very frequently removes blocked users for us! Let me know if you have any questions on my talk page. Heart (talk) 18:41, 15 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

I know, the bot isn't working right now so the reports need to be removed manually. 73.67.145.30 (talk) 18:42, 15 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Quick note on AIV reports

edit

When reporting to check the edit filter, try to make sure that the edits were disallowed, rather than tagged or logged, or none. The last IP you just reported had hits on the log, but they were for edits that made it through so were visible on their contribs. Thanks for all the help with vandal patrolling. It's appreciated. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 17:42, 2 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Got it, thanks. 73.67.145.30 (talk) 17:44, 2 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure if that came across harsher than I intended, so if I sounded stern, I meant it as more of a gentle reminder. It's not a terribly big deal either way, but it can save some admin time when there's a backlog or a lot of reports coming in. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 17:49, 2 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
No worries. :-). As for the particular report, I believe you're referring to 50.202.41.33 (talk · contribs · WHOIS), which has filter log hits but also showed up as published edits, so you can still view the edits through either the contributions page or the filter log (it'll show up as the same either way). I'll keep your advice in mind going forward. 73.67.145.30 (talk) 17:54, 2 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Creating an account

edit

You should think about creating an account. Beyond improving your ability to customize Wikipedia (preferences, user scripts, etc.) and making it easier for people to communicate with you, it would also help make your AIV and UAA reports easier to distinguish.

Regarding 27.99.103.154 (talk · contribs · WHOIS): At the time I had reviewed, the IP only had two edits, had been warned by another administrator, and had no edits after that warning. If similar situations arise in the future, simply resubmitting it with a note that they had been warned previously would be sufficient. Any administrator would have blocked them at that point. Thanks. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 22:55, 9 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I'm Clearfrienda. I noticed that you recently removed content from Darlan Romani without adequately explaining why. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. If this is a shared IP address, and you did not make the edits referred to above, consider creating an account for yourself or logging in with an existing account so that you can avoid further irrelevant notices.

Hey, thanks for that warning: I followed your lead and checked the filter log--I don't know if you can see that as an IP editor, but they've been fucking around trying to vandalize another related article, and so I just blocked them. Thanks again, Drmies (talk) 15:21, 10 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Your vandalism report

edit

Hi there, I noticed your report on the vandalism noticeboard at Special:Diff/1245901149. Please note that the vandalism noticeboard is solely for reporting obvious vandalism and obvious spam. I understand that the user reported you on the noticeboard at Special:Diff/1245900629 without adequate substantiation, and I have asked them to explain the reasoning behind their report at User talk:AZYF § Your vandalism report. In the future, when you encounter this type of conduct issue, I recommend engaging the user on their talk page and filing a report on the incidents noticeboard if the issue remains unresolved. Thanks. — Newslinger talk 20:09, 15 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

In the discussion at User talk:AZYF § Your vandalism report, I learned that you first reported AZYF (talk · contribs) at Special:Diff/1245896077. While AZYF's edits on their user page (e.g. Special:Diff/1245894882 and Special:Diff/1245894870) violate the guideline against gaming of permissions, they are not considered obvious vandalism or spam, and should be reported to the incidents noticeboard instead of the vandalism noticeboard. Please keep this in mind in the future. Thanks. — Newslinger talk 20:39, 15 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
