Tagging
editRather than go from article to article adding "citation needed" tags (so others can fix it), perhaps you can look for some citations to support the edit. Thanks for your understanding. Magnolia677 (talk) 18:10, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
- I may go and do that later, thanks for the message 50.102.149.14 (talk) 18:27, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
- I am actually not very knowledgeable in some of these topics so maybe it is best that I just stick to tagging for now to avoid mistakes 50.102.149.14 (talk) 18:34, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
- I'm learning as I go 50.102.149.14 (talk) 18:34, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
- Have autism 50.102.149.14 (talk) 18:35, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
- Also, I don't really know who the authoritative sources on some of these topics are. Can you help me? 50.102.149.14 (talk) 19:32, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
Notice of noticeboard discussion
editThere is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. Synorem (talk) 01:34, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
- I'll stop I guess. 50.102.149.14 (talk) 01:35, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
- Regardless; from my perspective, it's important for me to learn what (if any) editing policies this violates, so we can help steer people on the right path for future reference. Synorem (talk) 01:36, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
- Well this is upsetting especially that I can't even edit the page you directed me to. Who would be reliable sources to add to these articles? 50.102.149.14 (talk) 01:40, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
- In all due respect; I posted this disclaimer only because it is a requirement for posting a message on the noticeboard.
- Our hopes were that you would be able to. Wikipedia is all about contributing, after all, no? Synorem (talk) 01:43, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
- Maybe I will? Just give me a chance. 50.102.149.14 (talk) 01:45, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
- You say that like its already too late for me 50.102.149.14 (talk) 01:45, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
- Not at all - this is not an accusation or warning specifically. I've merely asked with someone with more knowledge on the subject to lend a hand. I don't want to tell you that what you're doing is wrong if it's not, you know? Synorem (talk) 01:46, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
- I'm rethinking how I want to do this I guess. Just trying to decide on the articles I want to edit. I got kicked out of school last month for sticking stickers everywhere and my therapist told me to try to refocus that energy into something positive. Here we are I guess. 50.102.149.14 (talk) 01:53, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
- If you have a habbit for repeating things en masse, I implore you to find & cite all the articles you listed as needing one. It'd be a good place to start! ;) Synorem (talk) 02:01, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for talking about this with me! =') 50.102.149.14 (talk) 02:03, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
- I found some internet links to source the Stout article but I'm not sure they're the best sources, but is something better than nothing? 50.102.149.14 (talk) 02:25, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
- Absolutely. If it mentions what the paragraph says, it ought to be good! Synorem (talk) 03:24, 30 October 2024 (UTC)

- Hi IP, have you considered making an account? If you have an account, that allows your edits to be attributed to you over time, which means you're eventually able to edit places like that noticeboard you were linked to. (Sorry you can't edit it right now. We had to shut down that option because of vandalism.) Making an account also means that you can choose some name for yourself, hide your IP address, and customize the way wikipedia looks for you. -- asilvering (talk) 04:45, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
- Yeah, I'll make an account when I can come up with a good name. I didn't mean for the tagging to disrupt, I just thought it would be better if people who knew what they were talking about more than me added the sources. But I can learn I think.50.102.149.14 (talk) 12:45, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
- I thought maybe some people were in the know, but were just unaware that the pages I edited were incomplete. 50.102.149.14 (talk) 12:48, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
- No worries! So long as you can explain your reasons for making edits, and you stop if people tell you your edits are unhelpful for whatever reason, you're doing great. You're correct that there are people in the know and that we probably didn't know those pages were incomplete, but what you do when you add those tags is you send the article to a very, very large backlog, so we really prefer that they're only put on when something really needs it - so if you stick to adding them when you think something is of particular concern for whatever reason, that's best. There are lots of other ways to help out too. Is there a topic in particular you'd like to focus on? Chances are, I can get you a list of possible tasks related to that topic. Some of these are pretty easy to learn how to solve, so you can start fixing things that are tagged for maintenance instead of tagging new things. Everyone will really appreciate that! -- asilvering (talk) 15:54, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
- Food and drink service, landscaping, lawn care, automobiles, art, video games, electronic music, travel, geography, world history are my interests/background!! 50.102.149.14 (talk) 19:09, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
- Okay, you're going to be set here for the rest of your life, sounds like. This is a link to a giant list of cleanup tags, separated by WikiProject (maybe now you can see why some people are dismayed when someone just adds articles to maintenance categories instead of fixing them!). A lot of these tags will be much easier to fix if you have an account and can use userscripts. Many other kinds of fixes require some amount of writing, which I gather you don't really want to do? So here is a direct link to one particular mantenance task. This is all the tagged articles in the electronic music wikiproject that have a citation that doesn't have a title in the "title" field. These tend to be pretty easy to fix. Here is how I fixed one of them. I followed the URL, copied the headline and author name from there back to the citation template, and then fixed the URL to remove the unneeded junk at the end. That's just one example of the many little tasks that don't need expert knowledge or writing ability to fix - there are loads, loads more. -- asilvering (talk) 19:37, 30 October 2024 (UTC)

editThank you for contributing to Wikipedia. However, please do not use unreliable sources such as blogs, wikis, personal websites, and websites and publications with a poor reputation for checking the facts or with no editorial oversight. These sources may express views that are widely acknowledged as pushing a particular point-of-view, sometimes even extremist, being promotional in nature, or relying heavily on rumors and personal opinions. One of Wikipedia's core policies is that contributions must be verifiable through reliable sources, preferably using inline citations. If you require further assistance, please look at Help:Menu/Editing Wikipedia, or ask at the Teahouse. Thank you. MrOllie (talk) 13:30, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
- This is what I was saying. I asked what would be reliable sources for this stuff and nobody was able to tell me. Now I'm reverted and I feel bad. I'm a reader not a writer. 50.102.149.14 (talk) 19:05, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
- Try not to feel bad when you get reverted (easier said than done). It's a normal part of editing here. See WP:BRD for one of the ways we use it all the time. -- asilvering (talk) 19:19, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
