Username change request

Hi, I had given a request for change of username. It has been a few days and was not done yet. I know Wikipedians offer services voluntarily, but if you have time, it would be great if you could look into that. Thank you. -- SreejithInfo (talk) 07:48, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

Right to Write

Mr. 28Bytes. Please let users that are trying to help Wikipedia with their knowledge edit pages. All of you editors always say "It must be properly cited" blah blah blah. You fail to understand that some people just want to share their knowledge and may not, cannot, or don't want to cite. I know there are vandals that try to trash Wikipedia and aren't trying to add to the website. Please let users that just want to say there was an alternate listing to the Pink Floyd album Wish You were Here say that! Let editors tell their story. How can that harm the website! It's just making it better! This site suffers from being boring. The tone of the writing in Wikipedia is monotone. If you just let editors express themselves freely, then Wikipedia would be much better.

Sincerely, A former Wikipedia editor — Preceding unsigned comment added by 154.20.212.194 (talk) 05:07, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

That you, Lirk? Regardless, please don't try to deceive people with false edit summaries. 28bytes (talk) 06:34, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

What do you mean when you say false edit summaries? Could you explain any false edit summaries that I may have done. If I have indeed made false edit summaries, it was completely unintentional. I try my best to explain my edit in the line provided. I don't know what else to do. Please, do explain.

Thanks, A former Wikipedia editor — Preceding unsigned comment added by 154.20.212.194 (talk) 06:44, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

Ok sorry 28 Bytes, I just clicked on the edit summaries link that you provided. Um yeah, I get it now. BTW I was just editing it for old times sake. Pfff changed Gilmor to Gilmour. Also, notice I didn't delete the incorrect track listings this time. I simply moved it to the bottom. I believe that one day. ONE DAY! My original vinyl will be accepted onto Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 154.20.212.194 (talk) 06:48, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

And uhh, who's LirkMcLean, I've never heard of this guy. Is he your buddy or something. Anyway support right to write. It will take some of the power that the admins have and give it to the people. This is what needs to be done. Spread the message, change the future! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Drederek101 (talkcontribs) 07:14, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

  • Note I have blocked both the 154 IP address and the Drederek101 accounts for abuse of multiple accounts while blocked. See: User talk:LirkMclean for reference. If you feel that I've done so in error, please feel free to revert my blocks and I will not consider it a problem in the least. I reviewed the edit history of both editors prior to blocking, as well as the issues involving LirkMclean, and believe the evidence strongly supports this as all being the same user attempting to evade a block and influence consensus on an article(s). YMMV though - and I'll respect your decision. — Ched :  ?  19:21, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
Thank you, Ched; it was pretty clear to me that this was all the same person but I appreciate a second set of eyes taking the time to do their own review. Cheers, 28bytes (talk) 19:28, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

Question

Hi. I noticed you recently reverted my edit to the Indiana Jones redirect here, with the note you were improving consistency. Could you perhaps expand on what was meant by that?

I actually made the edit to improve consistency. It seems that when multimedia franchise names share a name with a particular character or entry within that franchise, Wikipedia generally redirects toward the franchise page (e.g., James Bond,[1] Star Wars[2]). This would make sense, since the franchise page is more all-encompassing than a specific character bio. Grandpallama (talk) 19:27, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi Grandpallama, thanks for stopping by. I made the change because think it's confusing to a user to type indiana jones and wind up on one page but type Indiana Jones and wind up on another. Now, if you think the Indiana Jones page content ought to be moved to Indiana Jones (character), with Indiana Jones redirected to the franchise page, I've got no particular problem with that (although it'd probably be a good idea to suggest that on a talk page or go through WP:RM first.) But in general I don't think having different capitalizations of the same character or franchise name going to different pages is a good idea. 28bytes (talk) 19:36, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the quick reply and for your very reasonable explanation, which makes good sense; I'd say your consistency concern outweighs my own. It does seem to me that to create more global consistency, all the variations of capitalization would lead to the franchise page. However, most of my editing is just tweaking, and I'm frankly not that interested in instigating a page move (especially since I don't think it's that big a deal in the grand scheme of things). :) I just wanted to know the logic behind your reversion. Thanks! Grandpallama (talk) 19:49, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
Glad to help. Happy editing! 28bytes (talk) 20:10, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

Username change request.

Could you change my user name from User:Calvin999 to User:AARON please. (User:Aaron is already taken, so I'll have AARON instead). Thanks. AARONTALK 17:20, 12 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi there. Unfortunately User:AARON has already been registered too [3], so you'd need to follow the instructions at WP:USURP to take it from whoever registered it. That usually takes about a week. (There's also the issue that User:Aaron edited just a couple of months ago, and we generally don't like to have two active users with usernames that are identical except for the capitalization, so someone might decline the request in the meantime.) But if you can think of an unused username you'd like to switch to, I'll be happy to make the change for you. 28bytes (talk) 17:37, 12 September 2012 (UTC)
Okay thanks. AARONTALK 23:08, 12 September 2012 (UTC)

Username change issue

Hello. I saw you were the user who performed by change of username. I have a problem. All my contributions and watchlist and other stuff is now on the new name, but i can't log in with it. I still have to log in with the old account. Is this usual or is some kind of bug? I don't know what to do. Thanks. Zedd Milestone (talk) 02:45, 13 September 2012 (UTC)

Actually, forget it haha. It was just a password issue ad i have just fixed it. Thanks for the username change :) Zědd (talk) 02:51, 13 September 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zedd (talkcontribs)

Name conflict on Unification of account

Hi, I am Christian99 registered in German wikipedia, I wanted to get a Unified login, which worked, except that the name in Englisch Wikipedia was already taken. Is it possible to get it, or what do I have to do best if not? Greetings, Christian 141.34.19.62 (talk) 13:31, 17 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi there. If you follow the instructions at WP:USURP, we will be able to free up User:Christian99 for your SUL use (after giving the current holder of that username a week to object). If anything in the instructions is not clear, please let me know and I will do my best to help. 28bytes (talk) 19:41, 17 September 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing me there. Here ([4]) the page isn't mentioned, just it has to be done by a bureaucrat. 141.34.19.62 (talk) 11:49, 18 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Request for Userfication

Hello 28bytes. Some time ago I accepted the article Jeremy Cloward from WP:AFC. It was speedily deleted by an administrator without tagging. Since I see you at the Category:Wikipedia administrators who will provide copies of deleted articles, I was wondering if you could userfy the article to me to see exactly what went wrong with my reviewing eyes. When I am finished, the reviewer is asking that I give her the copy of the article so she can work more thoroughly with it and resubmit it to AfC when she is done. Is this OK? Thanks! Michaelzeng7 (talk) 01:01, 20 September 2012 (UTC)

Done. You can find it at User:Michaelzeng7/Jeremy Cloward. 28bytes (talk) 01:15, 20 September 2012 (UTC)

BRD project

I have outlined a proposal for a potential project that you might be interested in at User:Betty Logan/BRD enforcer. The essence of it is a peer review system in relation to challenged unilateral edits. I'm contacting you because you expressed an interest in a previous discussion in regards to a more stringent enforcement of BRD. If you are not interested then no worries, I'm just testing the waters at this stage to see how much interest there would be in such a co-ordinated task force. Betty Logan (talk) 15:50, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

An intriguing idea... thanks for the heads-up. I'll take a closer look as time allows. 28bytes (talk) 15:56, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

Hey, Mr. Admin 28bytes, there's a naughty word on the front page!! Who do I see about getting those responsible blocked, banned, drawn and quartered? Hold on while I check to see who these people are... Oh. Shocked in Boise (talk) 16:12, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

Re-name request

Hi 28bytes, I left a message over at Bureaucrats but maybe it's better if I ask you here. If I check the page User:Gaba it does not exist, do I still need to WP:USURP it or can my account simply be renamed? Thank you! Gaba p (talk) 14:26, 5 October 2012 (UTC)

Hi there. The account has not made any edits, but is registered, so you would need to request a usurp. 28bytes (talk) 15:19, 5 October 2012 (UTC)
Got it now, thank you again! I'll re-add the resolved tag over at the Bureaucrats page. Regards. Gaba p (talk) 15:51, 5 October 2012 (UTC)

Admin score

Following up on the RfA thread from last week, I'm sending a message out to a few people who seemed to have positive and/or constructive comments on the admin score tool. I created a subpage where editors could indicate their own preferences for the relative importance of various criteria, but I didn't get as much input on it as I expected. If you have time, would you consider taking a look at Wikipedia talk:Requests for adminship/Admin scoring workshop and adding your input? The most important section is the top section ("Relative importance"). If you have a minute, add a row to that table. If you have a few more minutes, consider adding input to the more specific tables on the rest of the page. Thanks for your help. -Scottywong| comment _ 16:50, 8 October 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the invitation, I will take a look. 28bytes (talk) 04:45, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
I checked mine and I have +28 from a block 520 days ago. I don't think the existence of a block should ever become +anything. Ryan Vesey 16:57, 8 October 2012 (UTC)
It looks like the heuristic is something like 0 blocks give you X base points, and each block takes points off of that base score, depending on how old each block is. 28bytes (talk) 04:45, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
