Article evaluation

edit

I’ve been interested in alcoholism for quite some time now. My father would always drink and say he loved us, but I would tell him if he did love us then he would quit. I want some in take coverage on alcoholism to understand and comprehend the after math of consuming alcohol though a Wikipedia’s artical on Alcoholism , and with that in mind I visited the Alcoholism page on Wikipedia, and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: Environmental factors and genetics, long term drinking effects, and short term drinking affects.

Short-term affects

edit

Some short-term effects of alcohol abuse can be just as dangerous as long-term effects. For instance, drinking can impact your reaction time. Causing you to have slow reflexes and coordination. That’s why drinking, and driving is extremely dangerous. Getting behind the wheel of a car under the influence can alter your perception of speed and distance, putting yourself and others at risk. Some symptoms causes “stupor, unconsciousness, anterograde amnesia, vomiting, increased self-confidence and sociability, decreased anxiety, a flushed, red appearance in the face[2],” and impaired judgment as well as fine muscle coordination.

Long-term affects

edit

Additionally, consuming too much alcohol can affect your long-term health. Some side effects may lay dormant for years before they surface. Here are some long-term side effects by alcohol brain defects, “Wernicke Korsakoff syndrome, liver disease, diabetes complication, heart problems, vision damage, increase risk of cancer and even bone loss”.

Environmental factors and genetics

edit

Environmental factors and genetics are two factors affecting alcoholism that frequently runs in families. However, individuals with a genetic risk factor for addiction maybe more at risk to develop an alcohol use disorder if they happen to also struggle with social, environmental or psychological influences that could be tied to  an addiction. Even past or present traumatic experiences, as either a child or adult, can be risk factors for alcohol abuse. A person’s environment and the way they experience social and cultural influences can alter the way they perceive alcohol abuse. These elements could contribute to more frequent episodes of drinking and also having a factor risk in the next generation of family members.

Drinking too much on a single occasion or long term can take a serious toll on a person’s heath. Some effects of alcohol may have a minor effect on your health, while others can be severe or even life threatening due to intake alcohol. A person’s environment and the way they experience social and cultural influences can alter the way they perceive alcohol abuse while it’s been used for the long term or short-term because. Many of us have different reasons of why alcohol consumption was the first thing that came to mind. In conclusion, I have learned this from a personal experience and have seen it in first hand ,also reading from Wikipedia’s article on “Alcoholism” how alcohol and have a major effect on environmental factors and genetics, long-term effects and even short- term affects.
