Lead vocalist Henry Paul, prior to the foundation of Blackhawk, was a member of the rock band Outlaws. He recorded several albums with this group in the 1970s, but during the 1980s, wanted to pursue a career in country music instead. As a result, he moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where he began working with songwriters Dave Robbins and Van Stephenson.
