Hello! My name is Stefan Janusz. Welcome to my user page. I dwell in the broad green fields of data, science and technology, particularly the open flavours of all three. My interests include reasonably-priced wines, being pedantic about typographical marks but also using them incorrectly (the same goes for grammar, technical explanation etc etc), italo disco, whalesong, guttering (actually more of a preoccupation than an interest) and arcane forms of communication.
Former Conflict of Interest
editI am a former UK Civil Servant, working in Data and Technology Policy, and was a member of the Government Science and Engineering Profession and Policy Profession. I inhabited this role for more than 6 years. It was fun.
Former Former Conflict of Interest
editI was previously an employee of the Royal Society where I was a major Anniversary Programme Manager. I am (still) likely to suggest edits to articles relating to the Royal Society and particularly the Society's oldest journal, Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, the 350th anniversary of the first issue of which it was my job to coordinate an anniversary programme for (mouthful!). There are potentially other pages about science and history of science, that I will either suggest edits for where I believe I have a COI or edit myself where I don't, and it is my intention to follow Wikipedia's guidelines on WP:COI, WP:RS, WP:V and WP:NPOV as I do this. If I do something wrong, please just let me know!
Other things I've done. Or possibly still do.
edit- I write things
- I used to make music: Sounds
- I have a Cross-disciplinary science PhD in nanotechnology/(synthetic) biointerfaces and my thesis is here
- I am a lapsed/recovering DJ, having put on nights at various places around Sheffield and London. I did design for these as well as DJ and all the technical set up, essentially because I like wires.
- I've worked as a science writer, eg. this
- I've worked on educational projects
- I've helped demonstrate the power of opening up data
- I've worked in tech policy - AI Sector Deal. Funnily enough this was drafted by me and the brilliant Yi Luo - we both went to the same bog standard comprehensive school in West Yorkshire, but didn't realise that until after the doc's publication.
