About Amit
editBorn On Thursday, 6th of March 1986, in the city of Haifa in Israel. Amit defined himself as "an Israeli cool geek". Main interests of his are gastronomy, tiring sports and sustainability. The interest in sustainability was noticed by him for the first time in the year 1994, declared officially as The Environment Year by the Israel Ministry of the Environment. During a garbage collection project he was struck by the feeling that he is taking part of the a global operation of cleaning Earth. Since then, he became the kind of environmentalist that implements his life philosophy in every aspect:
* Consumes only plant-origin products * Minimizes transport pollution * Minimizes consumption * No addicting drugs
He combines these as part of his lifestyle. Inside the city, the only transportation means are walking and cycling. Amit's friends know he prefers nature over humankind, and although not a treehugger, deep in his heart he loves plants more than people. Environment conservation interest him more than the survival of humanity. 3 billion people on Earth is more than enough. The more you get to know Amit, the stranger he seems. Amit is an active environmentalist and pacifist, and he uses a unique way to save humanity - by giving a personal example of a modern ecological lifestyle, through the continuous study of sustainability. Knowledge and social activism are inseparable parts of sustainability. The practical aspect of sustainability goes side by side with broad theory. His life mission is to use the knowledge acquired to save nature on earth[1].
Etymology
editThe word SHOHAMIT is the combination of the Hebrew names "שוהם", Shoham which is the Hebrew word for Onyx, and is the name of the female member of this couple, and "עמית", Amit which is a Hebrew synonym for friend, and is the name of the male member of this couple. The first to suggest first this name was Rotem Beach, referring to Shoham by this nickname, as her classmate in primary school[2]. Rotem was also the first to call the couple by this same word which is suitable for the combination of the names Shoham and Amit. The word shohamit is also used as the couples internet identity, and sometimes as the internet identity of Amit only.
Meeting Shoham
editAmit met Shoham on 20th of June 2002, in a party Amit conducted in his parent's home in Haifa. Even though she was not invited to this event, a common friend, Nitzan Shupak, brought Shoham as her companion. Amit who was very upset from the unexpected guest invitation did not speak with her throughout the event. As Nitzan kept with this line of action Shoham became a part of this circle of friends. Quickly a strong bond was formed between Shoham and Amit, as they shared a similar life philosophy, and they started often meeting together privately. At the Lag BaOmer's Bonfire event on Tuesday 30th of May 2003, an emotional spark established their formal couple identity.
