I was one of three founding trustees of the charity for which I created the article SABRE Research UK. I had no financial interest in the charity competing interest. Since the whole purpose of the charity was to remove bias from medical research I invited other users to edit the article to help produce an objective encyclopaedic entry about the charity and its aims. For more detailed information about 'competing interests' and how they are declared in medical journals please see: PLoS ONE Competing Interests and BMJ Competing Interests
NB: WE CLOSED THE CHARITY DUE TO A PROFOUND LACK OF INTEREST FROM ANYONE IN SUPPORTING THE CHARITY IN CHALLENGING THE BIAS THAT PERVADES MEDICAL RESEARCH. WE FOUND THIS BIAS IN FUNDING AGENCIES, PATIENTS, THE PUBLIC AND OTHER RESEARCHERS. THE LACK OF INTEREST REFLECTS THE BIAS TOWARDS THE STATUS QUO IN MEDICAL RESEARCH AND A WEAKNESS IN ITS FOUNDATIONS OF WHAT HAS BECOME AN INDUSTRY WHICH PUTS PROFIT BEFORE PATIENT HEALTHCARE.
