Early life

edit

Kyle Franklin is the son of Jimmy Franklin, also an aerobatic pilot. Kyle began flying at age 8, wing-walking at age 14, and wing-walking professionally at 17. By age 21 he was piloting in air shows.[1]

His father and planned future father-in-law Bobby Younkin, both aerobatic pilots, died when they crashed into each other in a July 2005 air show.[2]

Kyle married Aerobat Bobby Younkin's daughter Amanda in October 2005. The two would continue in aerobatics with Kyle flying and Amanda wing-walking. On March 12, 2011, Kyle's Waco lost engine power and crashed during an airshow. Both were injured in the crash and subsequent fire, and Amanda died of her injuries on May 27.[3]
