Templates: Hatnotes

edit
  • generally: WP:HN
  • section hatnotes for split-out of related articles:
    • {{Main}}: pointing to the main article on a topic, of which this section is a summary
    • {{Further}}: for further detail on a narrower topic
    • {{Broader}}: for broader coverage of the topic, but not a main article
    • {{See also}}: related topics at roughly the same level of focus

Templates: Cites & Refs

edit
<ref>
{{cite web
    | url =
    | title = <title of source page on website>
    | last = <lname of author>
    | first = <fname of author>
    | date =
    | website = <website name, if it has one other than the domain name>
    | publisher = <org/company>
    | access-date =
    | language = en
    | quote = <context quote if needed>
    | trans-quote = <quote translated into english if needed>
}}
</ref>

Check {{cite web}} for extra params if translating/using non-English sources.

Named refs

edit

Use a normal cite for the first occurrence, with the name attribute added to the ref tag. Then use an empty ref tag for subsequent calls:

<ref name="Cite2024">{{cite...}}</ref>

<ref name="Cite2024 />

New refs section if needed

== References ==
{{reflist}}

Miscellaneous Syntax

edit

Redirect

edit
#REDIRECT [[Name of article]]
edit

Easiest way is to use the {{ill}} template, which shows up as a redlink if the current language version doesn't exist, and a blue link if it does.

{{ill|Patrick Norman|fr}}
{{ill|Mikuni Pass|ja|三国峠 (群馬県・新潟県)}}

Wikivoyage: the base template creates a wiki box; the inline one is suitable for use in a bulleted list.

{{Wikivoyage}}
{{Wikivoyage inline}}
{{Wikivoyage|<page on wv>|<rendered-as>}}

These almost always go in the 'External Links' section on Wikipedia.
