Bill Hoogterp is a philanthropist, author and entrepreneur. He is the author of Your Perfect Presentation (McGraw Hill, 2014)[1] and founder of Own The Room, a public speaking training company[2].

Career

Hoogterp started his career in the nonprofit sector, helping to start a series of national nonprofits related to community service and hunger issues, including Into the Streets[3], the National Student Campaign Against Hunger and Homelessness Hunger Clean-Up, and the Campus Outreach Opportunity League (COOL). He founded the Newark, NJ chapter of Do Something (which served as the pilot program for the national organization) and served as its Executive Director[4]. Together with Andrew Shue and Michael Sanchez, he was a founding member of ClubMom (later renamed CafeMom and Café Media)[5]. He subsequently founded Own The Room, a company teaching business executives to become better public speakers and communicators[6].

Bill Hoogterp has shared his tips on public speaking in Fast Company[7], Parade Magazine[8], and on the Today Show[9]. He has also been quoted in publications ranging from Men’s Health,[10] DuJour Magazine[11], and New York Daily News[12]. He co-authored Hunger and Homelessness Action: a Resource Book for Colleges and Universities[13]. His book on public speaking, Your Perfect Presentation, was published in 2014.
