About me
editHi, I am an instructional librarian in the United States and enjoy using my research skills to add to Wikipedia. In one way or another, I've been helping people make small edits to Wikipedia and Simple English Wikipedia since 2010. In 2020, I finally dedicated myself to doing more than scratching the surface, and have been happily learning and editing.
I was particularly gratified to take part in a course taught by Wiki Education, focused on training scholars in how to edit Wikipedia. (Learn more at wikiedu.org to see what courses are upcoming.) That course was focused on learning to edit via work on the COVID-19 pandemic, so I did a fair amount of work on the COVID-19 pandemic in California. I also was part of the Social Movements and the Election WikiScholars program in Spring, 2024.
My priorities
editMore regularly, my interests primarily relate to pages relating to women (primarily in the US, historical and contemporary, but also from Papua New Guinea) and especially women with other personal identifiers that are often left our of our national narrative. Awesome non-women, as well. Overall, interested in representation of the nation's history and contemporary society.
In addition, I am interested in the ways that the perspectives of those who show up to work on Wikipedia can become systemic biases.
As a result, a big focus for me is teaching other people to edit, and learning to/editing in community with others. I currently have three regular editing groups with whom I meet, edit, explore, and learn, two of which are affiliated with all-girls/women/gender diverse institutions. I particularly adore working with other educators who can empower students to edit responsibly, and with my own students.
