A few folks (part of an informal Sunday GP watching group) have made the following comments:
Multiple reference citations [1][2][3] are hard to read for older people with diminishing eyesight when reading webpages at 100% screen display. This age-group regards it as a bonus to be able to still read web pages at browser default resolution over those having to boost any webpage to 125% if not 150% screen display which throws text or any embedded table off the screen to make scrolling left to right a necessity. In response, I started to provide a single space between such reference clusters: [4] [5] [6] which was reported to improve "readability" and solve the "blurring-together" problem that a significant number of readers appear to experience. In view of the fact that a huge data source like Wikipedia can not provide alternate display resolutions to accommodate everyone, I found this method to be a benign and easy way to improve general text layout for the above mentioned reason. This includes table layouts.
