Ethics in the Development of Modern Medicine:
Pharmaceutical countries perform clinical trials in third world countries because it is cheaper in cost and the ability to have access to a diverse population of people. In addition, in many cases, many of the test subjects in these studies may not have knowledge of the study. In addition, many of the people who do consent to the study may not have a full extent of knowledge of what will occur in the study in return for small compensation for their participation. Many third-world countries do not have equitable access to modern vaccines. Many third-world countries are exploited for their natural resources and testing used for medical practices and newer medicine. Substances like Quinine, methanol, rutin, and oils like tea tree oil are all-natural substances that are taken from underdeveloped countries and used in the making of modern medicine.
Many clinical trials are held in third-world countries. In addition, in countries like America, many minorities do not have access to expensive medicine. Many Americans cannot afford medicine because healthcare costs are really high. Another example is many diabetic Americans can't afford the price of insulin. In America, there is a lack of price regulation with Pharmaceutical companies as they control the prices of medicine. As well as high medicine prices comes the issue of specialty drugs for a small population of people as many people may not have the disease which would make many pharmaceutical companies skyrocket the prices as some of these diseases vaccines may be harder to produce and be more costly. Many pharmaceutical companies also discriminate against people of color when doing genetic and effectiveness testing of medicine and target one audience and its effectiveness on specific populations.
