The Freedom Democrats (FDs) are a British patriotic political party formed as a splinter group from the British Freedom Party in 2011. It describes itself on its website as “ right of centre and dedicated to our nation”.
Policies
editThe FDs advocate the United Kingdom withdrawing from the European Union and from the Council of Europe so that its people may be governed by their own elected parliament. It takes a robust stance on immigration, and seeks to replace open door immigration with a system of short-term work visas dependent upon genuine need. Its other policies include opposition to wind farms, a judicial review on the return of the death penalty, and opposition to the British occupation of Afghanistan. It is opposed to the barbaric practice of Halal slaughter.
Outlook
editThe FDs were founded by people who identified a need for a modern patriotic party in British politics. It is opposed to open door immigration, but does not seek to differentiate between existing British citizens on the grounds of race or skin colour. Shortly after its formation in 2011, its leader and treasurer were guests at a conference in Berlin hosted by Die Freiheit, and attended also by representatives of forward-looking patriotic political parties from Holland and Sweden. Following the conference, the party chairman noted that: I believe that the Berlin trip has shown that the Freedom Democrats have filled a void in British politics which is compatible with the European Freedom Movements. For the first time Britain has the opportunity to join with our continental political counterparts to unite and fight against the autocracy which is the European Union. Britain has lagged behind our continental counterparts but the Freedom Democrats now give this country the opportunity to put patriotic politics into the mainstream
