My name is John Chamberlain Harker, but most people call me Jace. I'm a former academic and an advocate for open access publishing. My goal is to improve how scientific research is practiced, reviewed, and published -- I want to make science better! Currently I'm the Director of Community at Authorea, a web-based collaborative writing tool for students and researchers. Authorea is a completely free service for Open Access writing, with a freemium model for private writing. In 2012, I received a Ph.D. in Materials Science from the University of Rochester. From 2009 to the end of 2014, I worked at scientific publisher Springer Science+Business Media, first as a physics editor and then as product development manager. I worked on a number of projects including creation of the "Undergraduate Lecture Notes in Physics" series, and later on the pilot Intersect Open Data platform. In my spare time I bake and cook, and especially enjoy wood-fired stone oven baking. |
