Genesis was a short-lived psychedelic rock band from Los Angeles, California. It released the album In the Beginning in late 1967.[1] The band is notable for its two guitarists as much as its naming conflict with what was then an obscure British act, namely the British band Genesis. Lead guitarist Kent Henry would go on to join Blues Image and then Steppenwolf. Rhythm guitarist Jack Ttanna had been in the Sons of Adam, where he performed under his birth name "Joe Kooken."[2][3]

Other members of the band included drummer Bob Metke, singer Sue Richman, and bassist Fred Rivera. After Rivera was drafted, bassist Jimmy Chappell replaced him for the post-album track "The Long Road", which was tacked on to the end of the album when it was re-released on CD in 2007.[4] The band broke up by the end of 1968, although Metke and Henry would both appear as session players on the critically reviled Lord Sutch and Heavy Friends album produced by Jimmy Page.
