Life

edit

In 1989, after graduating from the University of Colorado, Dean was asked to accompany a small theatre company to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. After the Festival, Dean stayed in Edinburgh and found himself working for an insurance company and learning a lot about pubs before returning to the U.S. in July of 1990. Returning to the Festival in 1991, Dean relocated to London permanently and ended up as a Graphic Designer at British Telecommunications plc.

Fancyapint.com

edit

He and a friend at BT started developing the pub review website fancyapint.com in the mid-nineties. It was a labour of love, as they spent a lot of time in public houses and after building the site in their spare time, the site was launched in 1999. Fancyapint.com is a pub review website which aims to tell the user about all pubs, not just the good ones. In 2006, the first edition of the book Fancyapint? in London was published, providing a cross-section of pubs across the capital, with a second edition published in March 2009.

Writing

edit

Having started writing in school, Dean continued writing when he found time to do so. He started Death in Amber in 1997 after watching a programme about the Amber Room. He still gets up early in the morning to work on his latest novel.
