Real Birmingham Football Club is a BritLeague franchise and English football club based in Birmingham, UK.
History
editBirmingham citizens were left without a Major League Football (now BritLeague) team to support when Birmingham Burn controversially moved to Belfast in early 2002. Efforts to get MLF football back in the Second City were successful when in late 2003, MLF announced that Birmingham would get an expansion team for the 2005 season.
In 2004 there was a poll to chose the team's new name. Options were Real Birmingham, Birmingham Rovers, AC Birmingham and Birmingham United. Real Birmingham was the winner. Despite initial media ridicule over the team's new Spanish-influenced name, the Real Birmingham owner pointed to the many MLF clubs with wacky American-style names, and decided it would be best to add a little bit of foreign flavour to the league.
