Early life

edit

King was born in McCook, Nebraska and grew up in Fremont, Nebraska. He is the son of Kathy (née Karl], a neonatal nurse, and Bradley King, a deputy sheriff. King graduated High School in 2001 at Fremont Senior High School in Fremont, NE. He is of Irish and Luxembourgish descent. He is named after his 2nd great-grandfather Christopher King who emigrated from Cork County, Ireland in the 1840's to the United States to escape the Great Famine of the time.

Career

edit

King began working as a corrections officer in 2002 at the age of 19 in hopes of eventually becoming a police officer. He worked at Dodge County Corrections until 2006 when he was hired, trained and commissioned as a police officer with the Lincoln Police Department. After less than a year, King left the Lincoln Police Department to find work closer to home. Still seeking a career in Law Enforcement, King rejoined Dodge County Corrections and eventually became a full-time police officer with the Fremont Police Department from 2008 to 2010.

After nearly three years in policing, King left policing behind to explore other career options. He decided a career in computers was a better fit and received a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems from Bellevue University in 2013. He is currently a systems administrator for Kiewit Corporation, a global construction and mining company headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska.

Military Career

edit

King enlisted in the Nebraska Air National Guard's 155th Air Refueling Wing in 2004. He completed basic training and attended the Security Forces Academy, both at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. King spent his entire military career assigned to the 155th Security Forces Squadron in Lincoln, Nebraska and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. While King never deployed to any overseas theater of operation, he did several in-country deployments in support of Operation Noble Eagle and also was a part of Joint Task Force Katrina in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. King's enlistment expired and he received an Honorable Discharge in 2010 from the National Guard Bureau and the United States Air Force after completing two years of Individual Ready Reserve in 2012.
