Cerabot, a portmanteau of Ceradon—the bot's operator—and robot, is a multipurpose robot designed to edit Wikipedia doing various tasks. It speaks fluent Python and works at the speed of lightning! For now its purview includes dating maintenance tags (which is a very lucrative task, you know) but that will expand soon enough. Due to mine own indecision, Cerabot has suffered several name changes. (WP:CHUU link here)

1 (approval here) Search for articles on other-language wikis and place the articles in the form of interwiki links on the articles on the English Wikipedia. For this the bot used prepackaged Pywikibot code. approved

3 (approval here) Date maintenance tags on articles. The bot searches Category:Wikipedia maintenance categories sorted by month for articles that need to be dated. It trawls through the actual text of pages using an insanely powerful Python wikicode parser made by The Earwig. There are several ways Cerabot knows to date templates:
  • If the template has no |date= parameter at all, of course. In this case it just adds the current date in MY form.
  • If the template has a date in it's parameters but the parameter name is |1=.
  • If a parameter |date= exists, but the value of the date parameter is empty.
  • If the date in the |date= parameter is in an incorrect format (i.e. MDY, DMY, YMD, YDM, etc). It will change these automatically to the correct "MY" form needed.

4 (request here) Notifying article creators/expanders that their article has been nominated for Did you know? to be featured on the Main Page. Expander isn't actually a overly-broad term here; it is anyone who has contributed 10 edits or more to any particular article. Once the creator/expanders has been notified, a {{BotComment}} is left on the DYK nomination page indicating this. Withdrawn Withdrawn Inactive
