Markelle Fultz (born May 29, 1998) is an American college basketball player who plays for the Washington Huskies. He is a freshman at the University of Washington. Fultz earned his place in the Mcdonald's All-American league on January 15th, 2016.

Markelle Fultz's dynamic way of playing has cathes the eye of many NBA draft prospects. His dynamic way of playing seems to not be affected by the fact he is still a freshman.

Early Life

Fultz was born in Upper Malboro, Maryland (M.D) and attended the DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Maryland. He was signed with the Washington Huskies on Friday the 14th, 2015. Fultz claims he started playing basketball when he was 3 years old. ^[1]

High School Career

Fultz attended DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Maryland.^[2] Fultz spent his Sophomore year on DeMatha's Junior Varsity Team. In his Junior year Fultz averaged 16.5 points per-game. Fultz earned the WCAC (Washington Catholic Athletic Conference) POY (Player Of The Year) award with 16.8 PPG, 7.9 RPG, and 4.3 APG during his Junior year. He truly broke out in his Junior year and is always looked upon as the underdog. His junior year was also his first year on the varsity team and definitely proved himself. As a Senior Fultz averaged 19.1 points per game while leading DeMatha to a Maryland Private School League Championship. Fultz led his team to the finals, beating the Capital Christians in the finals. Fultz was also a member of the 2016 u18 Fiba Americas Gold Medal championship Team. Together with his teammates Markelle beat Canada 99-84 to win the championship. Markell put up an astounding 23 PTS, 5 RB, 5AST, and 3 STL in the final game. Prior to his Senior year, Fultz played AAU for the DC Blue Devils of the Under Armour Association Circuit. With many college recruits sitting on the sidelines, such as the Washington Huskies.

Fultz participated in the the Under Armour Elite 24 Skills Competition^[3]. The event took place in Brooklyn, NY in August, 2015. Fultz competed in the three-point shooting competition on August 21st, 2015 as well as the game.

Fultz was a five-star recruit and is regarded as one of the top players in the 2016 class.^[4] He played in the 2016 McDonald’s All American Game and Nike Hoop Summit.^[5]^[6] Markelle played in the Portland for the Nike Hoop Summit after winning MVP the 2015 Les Schwab Invitational Tournament. He averaged 20.3 points, 6.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 3.8 steals and 2.0 blocks per game and led his team to a second-place victory. Fultz committed to the University of Washington to play college basketball.^[7]^[8]

College Career

Washington (2016–present)

Markelle Fultz signed with the Washington Huskies August 21st, 2015. When asked why he signed with the Huskies, he said "the relationship we started to build, it was unbelievable with Coach Romar, Coach Chills - them showing up to every AAU game I had showed how really badly they wanted me, and I think that made a difference." He made his first appearance in a Husky uniform on November 3, 2016 in an exhibition game against Western Washington. Coming off the bench, Fultz tallied 14 points, seven rebounds, five assists, three turnovers, and one blocked shot in 23 minutes of play.^[9] In his college debut game, Fultz had 30 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists against the 2-0 Yale Bulldogs. The 6'4'' guard averages 35.8 minutes a game and scores consistently. Fultz averages 23.2 PTS, 1.6 STL, 6 RB, and 6 AST per game and is a first round 2017 projected draft pick. He averages a FG% of .479 and a FT% of .644. He has scored a total of 534 points, to go along with 138 assists and 139 rebounds while playing for Washington. Although nothing is determined, the Boston Celtics look to pick up Fultz in the 2017 pick.

McDonalds All-American

Fultz plays for the McDonald's All-American east team and seems to be doing some damage there too. He averages 10 points with two three pointers made over the span of his short season. Fultz also leads the league with most steals as he averages 3 per game and most assists with 6. Fultz is certainly proving himself out on the court and its been showing up on every board, not just the scoreboard. Fultz went from his Junior Varsity team at DeMatha Catholic High School to a 2017 round-1 NBA draft projection.

Interviews

During an interview with nbadraft.net, Fultz describes himself as a "playmaker" as many would too. He says he "can shoot the three, get to the rim, midrange, I can pass well". ^[10]
