Re: Caste and Hinduism/Assessment

Hi Bakaman, Thanks for inviting my feedback on these two areas. Unfortunately, my editing time is limited these days - I haven't even been to the Hinduism article for several days. I've seen so much ridiculous junk on caste here at WP, I wish I could jump in - at some point maybe I will. I've been trying to focus on bringing the Badrinath and Badrinath temple articles up to snuff, since that's a special love of mine, but that's all I can do right now. Good luck. ॐ Priyanath 00:31, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the information. I have already put it up. Regards. - P.K.Niyogi 13:08, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Other Help

Please refer the Chapter-XII on Manipur in the A History of Assam (1905) by Sir Edward Gait as this is only documented history/source of information on mediaval Manipur that is easily available which I know. If there other documented works please do inform me. Also, do you have any information about influence of Srimanta Sankardeva on Jai Singh during his stay Assam for his inclination towards Bhakti movement and Vaishnavism?--Dkonwar 15:41, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

No I don't have free JSTOR access - even if I did, it would be useless becoz that version must be available to all if you make it a reference. Rama's arrow 16:39, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Appreciation

I award this barnstar to Bakasuprman for his contributions in fixing many mis-informed edits. --Bhadani 17:26, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Congratulations! Please continue the good work to protect the integrity of the Project and assist in building the Dream Project of Jimbo Wales and his team. --Bhadani 17:26, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

And, I am sure that we all must remember that we are the real wikipedians who are member of the most resilient virtual community of human history. It is just the beginning and we have to cover a long distance to realize the dream of Jimbo and his team. Yes, we are also the members of his team as volunteers to build the sum total of human knowledge! --Bhadani 17:30, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the support. [1][2] My Han Chinese friends did quite a lot of editing while I was away and those they exchanged barnstars with even thanked CRculver for his actions. [3] Guess it kind of goes with the territory. Freedom skies 23:36, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Re:Img Help

With the obligatory IANAL,

1) This picture was not provided by Biographical Directory of the United States Congress. {{PD-USGov-Congress-Bio}} is incorrect.

2) I thought {{PD-USGov}} would work. This is not a work of a federal government. It was pulled from Minnesota Senate. And that is a state government.

3) Fairuse license will not work since he is a living person.

Hope that helps. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 00:48, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

I guess I was not clear, As per point number 2 above, {{PD-USGov}} is incorrect too. Basically that image is replaceable. It needs to be deleted. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 01:01, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
What do you mean? You want me to find a image? Fairuse images need not be stored until free-use is uploaded. They can be deleted within 7 days. Someone will be able to find a free-use image for the article. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 01:12, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
I delete the image for you. The recent changes in fairuse policy are a pain, but I understood where Jimbo is going with this. This is the only way we can get more people to upload free-content to Commons. -- Ganeshk (talk) 01:18, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

Batuo

Thank you for the citation on Batuo.

Faure is a third-party academic source and the source actually says what the citation says it says, which may well be a first for Freedom skies.

I still take exception to the use of the word "patriarch" because of the potential scope for confusion, but since Faure uses the word I shall leave it alone.

Please note Freedom skies' improper citation of Broughton; Huiguang appears nowhere in Broughton.

The current edit makes it possible that Wikipedia readers will be misled that Batuo taught Sengchou and Huiguang martial arts, which was precisely Freedom skies' intent and why he continues to remove my sourced material. I will continue to add this material to the article.

As for horizontal lines, I find it a more effective way of distinguishing messages that indentations.

Really?
I can think of one or two of your friends who are more deserving of that fate (one in particular).
In fact, of all your friends, you're by far the most reasonable.

Namaste Bakasuprman. Thanks for inviting me to the discussion on the Vidya Balan talk page. I gave my comments, provided some references, and suggested a compromise - one that should be agreeable to both parties. Also, I noticed that you requested that the Tamil script be added to the article. I'm not a native speaker of Tamil, but I can try to transliterate her name the best I can if you still want a Tamil rendition of her name. As for the arbitration comment you would like me to make, I'd be glad to. Let me know if you would like me to make a statement on you there. Thanks again, AnupamTalk 05:36, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi Bakaman, you must have checked out this new article I created. I have expanded it quite a bit. I will add some more info to it afterwards. However, I want to list it for DYK nominations. Pl.

Baka, an anonymous editor mischievously put non-sense links in the article "Hinduism". It was removed and removal strongly supported by many. These links in a subversive way placed on talk pg. I removed those links. Abecedare is somehow replacing those links which in no way can be considered relevant but mischievous. He does not cite Wikipedia policy but replaces those links. Does the Wikipedia policy support mischievous inclusions? swadhyayee 01:09, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Actually he was a highly controversial priest in Kerala. In Kerala there is a big dispute between two major Christian Sabhas. Hundreds of news reports are available about him in Malayalam Newspapers(In front page too). News reports in English Newspapers too. Please check this. www.hindu.com www.hindu.com But alas! the article is deleted.I think this type of deletions will question the credibility of Wikipedia's notability test. Some Kerala wikies are not interested in creating articles. They are deletionists. If they had good reading habits in Malayalam things would have been ended with a different climax.  Nileena joseph (Talk|Contribs) 17:36, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Look at this person. He is a Keralite. But he is not at all notable. No news report in Malayalam or In English is available to prove his notability. What made him notable..? I have nominated him For AFD.That is the only reason. Recently I had supported a Kerala Artist S. Jithesh.Because of that reason he suddenly became non-notable. Actually his name appears in everydays newspaper.See the news report from today's (26th nov)- www.hindu.com and www.hindu.com (27th nov) about this cartoonist. THis is a front page article of today's malayalam Newspapers. It was a state government's programme. Things are not going fair in Kerala wikipedia. Somebody is trying to sideline me and humiliate me.Here often cocus and groupism wins. I dont understand their logic...! Truth must be told fearlessly. That is my principle of life. Nileena joseph (Talk|Contribs) 18:04, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

AfD Nomination: Suman

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, but all Wikipedia articles must meet our criteria for inclusion (see What Wikipedia is not and Deletion policy). Since it does not seem to me that Suman meets these criteria, I have started a discussion about whether this article should be kept or deleted.

Your opinion on whether this article meets the inclusion criteria is welcome. Please contribute to the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Suman. Don't forget to add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of each of your comments to sign them.

Discussions such as these usually last five days. In the meantime, you are free to edit the content of the article. Please do not remove the "articles for deletion" template (the box at the top). When the discussion has concluded, an administrator will consider all comments and decide whether or not to delete the article.Edison 07:22, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi

Thanks for your support on Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_India page. One key thing from my POV is that the Aryan migration theory was built no linguistic basis, so it has to be dismantelled on linguistic basis. The authors and Bryant has provided enough details to argue on linguistic ground. Is there any area where OIT has not disqulified liguistic "evidence". If it in not clear, we can work on the wording to make it clear. There is lot of clean-up that needs to be done regarding "mainstream response". I was going to do that next. The reason I have not pushed much for Astronomy, is that the first evedence can be easliy discounted as compass have accuracy range and unless we can demonstrate that very accurate reading was possible, the date range is from 7000 BC to 800 BC for the observation. Mahabharta dating can be used as that is harder for mainstream to challenge. But so far I have been trying to get the more critical elements in first and then clean up the junk and next will be more additions. The reason I am trying to stay away from religious elements is that I don't want them to call it propoganda. thanks. sbhushan

Panchakshari Hiremath

Since no one objected, after closing the AfD, I have moved Dr.Panchakshari Hiremath to Panchakshari Hiremath. Is someone who assists in the invasion of Hyderabad really an Indian freedom fighter ? If so, will you be making sure that the articles on anyone who took part in the invasion of Kashmir contains the phrase Pakistani freedom fighter ? Curiously, Angus McLellan (Talk) 18:20, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks very much. Having said that, I think I'll have a look through the Kashmiri stuff to make sure we don't have "freedom fighters" there. I don't know if you're a cricketing man, but I read in the paper today that Hanumant Singh had died. I'm sure this would be a good time to find material to add to the article. I'll add what I can from the English papers, but there must have been loads of coverage in India. All the best ! Angus McLellan (Talk) 00:08, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

Removing project tags

Baka, I noticed you removing History of Pakistan tags. Please do not remove other project tags. It just results in tit-for-tat tag removals. Let us not get into edit-wars. Let us keep NPOV and verifiability checks to the article pages. Talk-page tags don't mean any harm. BTW, your new signature is looking good. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 23:16, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

We don't have to decide whether it makes sense or not. From the start, I have been telling that project tags are not meant to mark territory. They are meant to attract new members and improve the respective article. If the article gets improved by Pakistani editors or Indian editors, it does not matter, in the end it's good anyway. We just need to make sure the article stays within WP:CITE, WP:NOR, WP:RS and WP:NPOV policies. These need not be applied to talk pages. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 23:56, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

DYKs

Hi,

You don't need to ask me before adding DYKs. If you think something is good enough, add it. Also, if something has already appeared on the Main Page and is India-related, it is definitely worth the Portal page. Just remember to archive the older ones correctly. I just came back from a sort-of WikiBreak, and haven't given full attention to the Portal page as I used to. Hopefully in a couple of days, I will be back for dedicated maintenance of the page. WikiProject India Newsletter: Volume I, Issue 3 - December 2006

Project News
  • Name change of cities in Karnataka: A straw poll was conducted on the proposal to change the name of cities in Karnataka, per the Nov 1, 2006 decision by the Karnataka government to rename them from the current anglicised forms. The result of the poll was to change the names. As controversial as the decision may be in the real world, the article Bangalore in Wikipedia still reflects the old name. You may be interested in knowing why. Dig the archives.
  • New Project Noticeboard (Shortcut:WP:INB): WikiProject India now sports a new colourful centralised noticeboard. An effort to make the noticeboard current and dynamic was mooted a few days back, and Ganeshk came up with the new format. The new noticeboard will strive to be the one-stop shop for all project related information. The shortcut is WP:INB.
  • Members List: The old members list is being phased out to give way for the new members list. New members are requested to add their names to the new members list. As the newsletter grows, further issues of the Project Newsletter will be delivered to those enlisted in the new list. So dash down now, to check if ur name is in there.

Hi, Baka I was wondering whether you or other editors can replace the image (i.e., Khajuraho at http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Hindu#Religion_for_the_common_Hindu with a non-sexual image? It gives the wrong impression about the article, religion for the common Hindu.
