Youth Studies Research Topic
editI am interested in research the effect of the Khmer Rouge on youth in Cambodia, and possibly direct effects and effects that are still seen today because of this genocide. Specifically how it has effected their schools, economy, standard of living, opportunities, and family dynamics.
I am interested in this subject because I studied abroad in Southeast Asia last year in the spring and spent 2 months in Cambodia. Before going I knew nothing about the Khmer Rouge. While there I fell in love with the people and would like to look deeper into how they have remained such happy and content people after the hardships that they had to go through.
Some article that I may add to or build off of are: Childhood and adolescence in Cambodia, Wikipedia:WikiProject Cambodia, AshleyMichelleThompson (talk) 17:36, 22 February 2013 (UTC)
Proposal
editAfter looking more in depth into the topic area of youth in Cambodia I think I want to add a section to the page: Childhood and adolescence in Cambodia, dealing with looking at how the family structure was changed after the Khmer Rouge, and how educational institutions have had to rebuild. I will focus on challenges in Phnom Penh compared to rural areas, and how child labor effects the country. I will also look at youth knowledge of the genocide and how that effects them in moving forward.
I will also try and look at work that NGO's are doing in country in an effort to help the youth. I am going to try and also find information dealing with globalization and the effects it is having in country on youth.
I will be using sources such as: [1] [2] AshleyMichelleThompson (talk) 01:16, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
