L.I.C. Colony
LIC Colony (short for Life Insurance Corporation of India Colony), commonly known as Jeevan Bima Nagar is a residential area situated in the Western part of Borivli, a suburb of Mumbai city in India.
It is a large colony built by LIC of India with a number of four-storied buildings which were designed by Charles Correa. It is flanked by a number of colonies such as I.C. Colony, Devki Nagar etc.
It is known for its greenery and scenic beauty which has remained more or less untouched over the years. This is one of the reasons why the area has become the most sought after in recent years as an escape from the polluted environs of Mumbai.
Though the greenery is excellent, the upkeep of the open, green areas needs improvement. The internal roads/pathways need mending and caring. There are some structures in the middle of the colony, probably since many years, which are not part of the new construction. Also a large area where there is a cricket ground (unofficial), is now claimed by some other entity. The colony needs fencing in from all sides as it now looks half-cared with unfinished fencing, probably due to disputes over the land.
Let the colony maintain its greenery.
