Nirav Shah is an Indian politician who is current deputy mayor of Surat Municipal Corporation.[1][2] He hails from Bhartiya Janta Party since 1992.[3][4][5][6]

Early life

Nirav Shah completed his Diploma in Civil Engineering from Government Polytecnic at Ahmedabad. Then he moved to Surat and worked in Diamond Industry for 20 years and later he joined the infrastructure industry in Surat.

Shri. Nirav Sureshchandra Shah 41st Deputy Mayor of Surat Municipal Corporation, Gujarat, India. He is an active member of Baratiya Janata Party (BJP) since 28 years (1992- present). Shree Nirav Shah is known for dedicating his life towards development of Surat; from serving Yuvak Mahasangh to establishing "Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Help Centre", he has actively worked towards making India a better place. Nirav Shah very well connected to his religious beliefs and culture, he is the president of Jain International Organisation and various Jain charitable trusts.


Political career

Nirav Shah was appointed as chairman of standing committee of Surat Municipal Corporation in July 2014.[8] He was elected as deputy mayor of SMC in June 2018.[9][10][11] Media credited him for celebrating meat less day on 25 December 2018--day when SMC had decided to close their butcher houses for a day.[12]

Controversy

During 2020 coronavirus lockdown in India, Nirav Shah allegedly broke the rules of government imposed lockdown and social distancing while meeting Jain monks for relief work of animals. FIR against him was filed for violating section 144 of IPC which prohibits meeting more than 4 persons at one place. [13][14][15][16][17]
