The Innocent (German: Der Unschuldige) is a Swiss-German drama film, directed by Simon Jaquemet and released in 2018.[1] The film stars Judith Hofmann as Ruth, a devoutly religious woman working in a neuroscience laboratory whose life begins to crack when she receives news that her former fiancé Andi (Thomas Schuepbach), who has been in prison for 20 years after committing murder, is due to be released.[2]

The cast also includes Naomi Scheiber, Christian Kaiser, Anna Tenta, Urs-Peter Wolters, Laura Sophie Winter, Roland Aegerter, Karin Gunzenhauser, Benjamin Lutzke, Giulia Paganini and Jonas Rüegg in supporting roles.
The film premiered in the Platform Prize program at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival.[3]
Awards
editHofmann won the award for Best Actress at the 2019 Swiss Film Awards,[4] and Jaquemet was nominated for Best Screenplay.
