Highlight through redirect

When a redirect page links to a visible anchor, then a link to the redirect page (resulting in the browser jumping to the anchor) does not trigger the background highlighting, while clicking the link inside the redirect page – does.
For example, see Jason Allen Alexander.
Is there a way to highlight the anchor text also when reached through a redirect?
Pinging BrandonXLF as the writer of this comment (and of the highlight code itself, if I'm not mistaken – thanks a lot for that BTW! :) ) but of course any ideas will be welcome.
