Bad date formatting

Frietjes, currently Module:Sports_roster/WNBA rewrites the dates to a date format which is not supported by MOS:DATES. Can you adjust the pattern or consider removing the hackery entirely? Izno (talk) 19:19, 10 March 2022 (UTC)

Izno, is the suggestion to switch it to ymd, or just require ymd input? looking at Template:Indiana Fever roster (for example) I see the input in various formats, which is probably why there is hackery in there. Frietjes (talk) 19:40, 10 March 2022 (UTC)

I would personally recommend rejecting bad inputs in the same way that Module:Citation/CS1 does just to guarantee editors are adding dates in a way which makes sense to anyone else looking at the wikitext, but at a minimum I care about the output display. Izno (talk) 20:24, 10 March 2022 (UTC)

@Izno:, following your edit at Module:Sports roster, called instances were outputting errors; such as at Template:Los Angeles Sparks current roster as reported by @Koavf: at WP:VPT.
