Most of the airports have a name not related to the City in which it is located. So, thought of starting a template. The sections to be expanded....Pratheepps 06:50, 20 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Kerala appears to have been missed off completely from the Domestic airports part of the template. Skinsmoke (talk) 10:06, 10 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Proposal for insertion of Template:Indian Air Force bases

edit

It would be good if the template {{Indian Air Force bases}} be inserted into this template in collapsible state (only transcluding the content) under the military section (Indian Air Force) instead of separate code. Inserting the above mentioned template would be more useful as it also has the available advanced landing grounds. KCVelaga ☚╣✉╠☛ 15:17, 30 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Bidar Airport not in the list of Domestic Airports

Bidar Airport ( Bidar Airport ) in Karnataka is an airport with commercial flights. Why is it not in the list of domestic airports when there are two entries for so-called Bellary Aiports, old and new, one which is not in use and one which still hasn't taken off in terms of construction? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.254.34.180 (talk) 18:48, 14 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Bellary Airport - Bellary Airport - should not be in this list. It is a defunct airport due to the very small runway there that cannot be expanded due to the airport being inside the city and there are no commercial flights to it. It is now a radar station as can be seen in that very article, as also corroborated here :

As stated in Bellary Airport, it was converted to a Radar Station in 2011. The nearest airport currently that serves Bellary is Jindal Vijayanagar Airport at Toranagallu. Also, there is a new airport in the planning phase, as corroborated by the page Bellary (new) and therefore Bellary Airport - Bellary Airport - should be removed from this list. 117.254.35.233 (talk) 16:59, 21 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Ayodhya airport (Maharishi Valmiki International Airport, Ayodhya) was declared open today by the Prime Minister with a flight landing from Delhi and regular flights to different cities in India are scheduled to operate from this airport from next month.   Question: could you please provide a source for this? NotAGenious (talk) 18:26, 30 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
All television channels in India were agog with this news yesterday (December 30) not to mention all leading newspapers containing articles about the airport having been inaugurated. Your very article on this airport - Ayodhya - contains this information, not to mention flight schedules given too. But never mind if you cannot or do not want to make the correction. Somebody is bound to correct it, sooner or later. Truth always prevails. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:4490:4c35:b29:a151:8ffb:869c:eca3 (talk) 12:55, 31 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Done, moved from "Proposed" to "International" » "Eastern India" as it has an ICAO code of Eastern India airports (starting with "VE"). While the airport still hasn't begun regular flight operations, it definitely isn't a proposed airport anymore.
Please remember that most edit requests require reliable sources to back up information – the article on the airport had a few that would have been helpful here. Not everybody watches Indian TV channels! 😁 TGHL ↗ 🍁 22:53, 1 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Nasik is no longer a commercial airport but is a Military Airbase as stated in the article. Below the logo at the right side in the article, it states that it is a 'Combat Army Aviation Training School'. This should therefore be removed from the Domestic/private section and instead placed under the Military section 117.197.218.86 (talk) 21:33, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Which part of the military section should this be put in? LittlePuppers (talk) 03:38, 14 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Firstly, thank you for looking in to this. Considering that the Operator is 'Indian Army Aviation Corps' as stated a couple of lines below the logo on the right side, which means that it is run by the Indian Army, I think it would be ideal if another section within 'Military' (which currently contains sections for 'Indian Air Force' and 'Indian Navy'), is created, and could be titled 'Indian Army' and listed there? 117.252.109.252 (talk) 17:33, 14 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

My guess is that this is because that article says it's only seasonally an international airport - does anyone else have thoughts here? LittlePuppers (talk) 03:23, 14 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for looking in to this. Some other airports listed in the International section doesn't mention that there are even seasonal international flights but have been designated as International Airport. Case in point : Port Blair or Patna or Ayodhya. In fact Patna at least is indicated with a tilde indicating that it is a Customs Airport but Port Blair or Ayodhya neither contain the tilde nor mention anywhere in their articles that they're Customs Airports. At least Aurangabad has the tilde symbol on it, indicating that it is a Customs Airport (and, as corroborated in this Reference article : https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/aurangabad/international-cargo-passenger-services-likely-from-aurangabad-airport-soon/articleshow/80485850.cms which states in it "..... In 2014, the Aurangabad airport was declared a customs airport......), which qualifies it to be listed under the International section and is there. Apparently there're seasonal Hajj flights as detailed in this Reference article : https://eair.in/airport/aurangabad-ixu and therefore the request to remove the duplication from the Domestic section because an Airport that is designated "International" is automatically domestic but not vice versa 117.252.109.252 (talk) 18:13, 14 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thoughts on creating a new section called Airstrips

edit

A lot of so-called airports listed are airstrips, some with not even an asphalted runway and without an IATA or even an ICAO code. For example Bargarh, Dhenkanal which have no commercial flights to/from them and are owned by the State Government and some others that are either privately owned or owned by a Government Agency or Company that don't have any commercial flights to/from them such as Lanjigarh or Rayagada or Rairangpur which has a runway that is less than 1000 meters (750 or so meters long), that is short for any kind of flight to land on it, or Therubali which has a runway which is a little more than a kilometer long and is owned by the Indian Metals and Ferro Alloys Ltd (IMFA). Ideally, we should have another section called Airstrips dedicated to these airstrips that are not technically Airports (which usually have an ATC building, a building dedicated to serving passengers, unique IATA and ICAO codes, etc.,). 2001:4490:4C35:12B3:45D:4BBE:DD6:D369 (talk) 18:43, 4 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Dewas listed in the Proposed section, points to an article on the town of Dewas and not an article on any proposed airport. Although a decision to construct an airport in the village of Chapra was made in 2022, it was later shelved as can be seen in this article dated 13th January 2024 :

https://www.agniban.com/chapras-proposed-airport-is-buried-in-the-files-now-a-fresh-survey-has-been-started-to-find-suitable-land-between-indore-ujjain-and-dewas/

Goa Airports

edit

Both Goa airports are listed as in South India, which is understandable given the ICAO code (VO). But Goa as a state comes under Western India so logically both Mopa and Dabolim should be listed along with West and not South, right>? -- Rsrikanth05 (talk) 07:49, 17 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
