I derived this template from the English-language Wikibooks template b:Template:Naming policy notice. The history was as follows:

Deprecate Template:/doc

{{tdeprecated|/doc|template doc}}

This is because {{template doc}} provides a better "user interface", IMHO --AlastairIrvine 19:03, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

This template is only to warn people that it is incorrect to transclude {{/doc}} ... so it is basically deprecated by default. But adding the deprecated template might deter others who come across this template from using the documentation subpage pattern. Therefore I worry that it might not be a good thing. --Iamunknown 19:14, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

(edit conflict) There's no reason to deprecate this particular template because it has never been and was never meant to be used. It already links to the template documentation, and doesn't favor one method over another. –Pomte 19:15, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

Bad/Good Example edit request

Y Done - Yeah, it was hard to read those examples. I added the standard class="wikitable" to make the columns readable.

Needs default sortkey

Funandtrvl: I tried to add {{documentation}} to this page, since we should do as we teach. But it looked wrong, it made it look like this was not a warning message, but just another template. So I think we have to live without a /doc subpage for this page. So anyone that want to update its categories and interwikis have to use {{editprotected}} instead. Sorry about that.

MSGJ: Yeah, I don't see how people land on this page. I tried to type in the wrong /doc links in several ways both in page code and in the search bar, but didn't land on this page. But the stats say that this page gets some visits, so perhaps some people do end up here. So I guess we should leave it up. Better safe than sorry.

The purpose of this template

This template is here to say that using {{/doc}} is inappropriate. However now we mostly transclude {{documentation}} so now we can TfD this page, maybe? Thingofme (talk) 03:20, 4 August 2022 (UTC)
