School name

I think the school's full actual name is "Government Girls Science Secondary School Jangebe". I'm not completely sure though. Harizotoh9 (talk) 08:43, 27 February 2021 (UTC)

Nehme1499, I just formatted it that way to make it consistent throughout the article, since the dates were in all sorts of formats before. I just use mdy on most articles I encounter unless it says otherwise, feel free to change to dmy. Pahunkat (talk) 09:27, 28 February 2021 (UTC)

@Pahunkat: Per MOS:TIES, while Nigeria has own English spelling like another English-speaking countries, it mostly inherit they spelling from former colonial power the United Kingdom as it previously part of British Empire and still member of the Commonwealth of Nations, which all of them use DMY format even in Canada, which three date formats are used. Because it, this article should be use DMY as date format that commonly used in Nigeria as other Commonwealth countries. Add year to title of article

Sadly such incidents tend to recur, so we are likely to see more incidents in future years. I thus suggest that the year "2021" might helpfully be inserted into the title of this article. And likewise with the Kagara kidnapping article. Rif Winfield (talk) 13:40, 1 March 2021 (UTC)

Confusion

Zvikorn, the school is a boarding school. The raid happened at that time when the schoolchildren were sleeping. Pahunkat (talk) 17:14, 1 March 2021 (UTC)

I agree with Pahunkat, since it is a boarding school, it is technically open 24 hours a day and seven days a week, so long as there is students on campus sleeping, eating, or attending school. Jurisdicta (talk) 04:57, 4 March 2021 (UTC)

Number of girls

The numbers don't add up according to The Guardian. It says that 279 girls have been released, yet in the article it is 317. And also it should be updated, because they have been released. - Matroxko (talk) 08:54, 2 March 2021 (UTC)

I should elaborate a bit on what happened there - initial reports stated that 317 girls were kidnapped, however this was inaccurate as some ran into the bush to escape. The kidnappers abducted 279 schoolchildren, which have now all been returned. Pahunkat (talk) 20:51, 6 March 2021 (UTC)

Sadly, mass kidnapping of children is not uncommon in certain areas of the world. See List of kidnappings#Mass kidnappings. This recent article does not talk about any captures of the kidnappers, see Jurisdicta (talk) 03:55, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

Sickening quotes from self-serving politicians should be removed from article

According to the article, these politicians refused to stop stroking themselves even when the parents demanded their children, then used deadly force to ensure that their speeches would finish.
