Yuvraj Singh vs Stuart Broad : 6_6_6_6_6_6_Full-Monty

Stuart Broad was hit for six sixes in an over and in the process destroying England's 2007 Twenty20 World-Cup bid in South Africa.

Yuvraj Singh achieved cult status after the history-making Fully Monty administered to Stuart Broad in September 2007. The 6-sixes off a single over from Chris Broad which fetched 36-runs for Yuvraj Singh also contributed to the fastest half-century (50 off 12 balls) in International cricket. This feat, the first in Twenty20 internationals, has never been repeated in any form of the game in international cricket against a leading bowler from any of the Test-playing nations. The over also stands as the most expensive completed over ever bowled in International-level T20 cricket. The BBC's Test Match Special had this to say about this rarest of rare occurrence : "Every so often you have to take off your England sunhat, sit back and enjoy a once-in-lifetime 'I was there' moment." The performance drew admiration from the defeated England captain, Paul Collingwood who said "The best striking I've ever seen,"

The expression Full Monty in the cricketing context refers to 6 sixes in an over

Can we come to some consensus about how this article should be indexed? As far as I'm concerned the right place is under 'Y' because he is always referred to by first name. --ⁿɡ͡b Nick Boalch\talk 10:59, 4 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Have a look in the archives of WT:CRIC. This was the subject of a long and acrimonious discussion. Stephen Turner (Talk) 11:09, 4 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Cricket/archive16#Categorizing_Pakistani.2C_Bangladeshi_and_UAE_cricketers, to be exact. If you look at the bottom, there was a sort of muffled agreement that we could sort the cricket categories however we liked, as long as we left the death and birth cats alone. Sam Vimes | Address me 14:48, 4 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
That seems far from satisfactory to me. --ⁿɡ͡b Nick Boalch\talk 15:19, 4 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
All by Y is my preferred option. Even with his dad Yograj, outside of cricket, as reported in the Jessica Lal case and as an actor, is referenced by Y. Gene said that there is more to the guy than how his cricket shirt is printed, but in his tabloid life, outside of cricket, as as actor, etc, he is also indexed Y. Blnguyen | BLabberiNg 22:04, 4 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
I think the important principle at stake here is that the whole world doesn't organise names in the same way, meaning that it's absurd for Wikipedia to categorise every individual by 'surname' when that concept isn't always a meaningful one. However, this individual talk page may not be the best place to have that discussion. :/
For the moment I'd be happy enough to sort out a long-term solution for this particular article. I don't regard indexing cricket categories one way and biographical categories another as an acceptable solution. --ⁿɡ͡b Nick Boalch\talk 08:44, 5 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Agree, his cricket name is also how he is referred to in real life by newspapers etc, for non cricket stuff, so it should be OK to use Y for all the cats. Blnguyen | BLabberiNg 08:46, 5 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
The cricket WikiProject has decided that Pakistani categories are sorted by first name, without any regard to the actual names the person uses and how they are sorted elsewhere. Similarly, all but the Pakistani (and two? others) are sorted by normal sort order.
The sorting by first name is a property of a category, not of a person. Gene Nygaard 14:14, 16 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Pronunciation

edit

The pronunciation of Yuvraj Singh's name is actually Yuvraj Sengh with Sengh pronounced with high tone on the e (i.e. Séngh). This is the Punjabi pronunciation, where as the Hindi pronunciation is "Singh".

What community does Yuvraj Singh belong to?

edit

Is Yuvraj a Sikh/Hindu Rajput or Sikh/Hindu Jat? or a mix?. Can anyone find a source as this would be noteworthy.KBN (talk) 04:04, 14 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sikh here. I wouldn't include it though, teh WP policy is not to cat people under religion unless it is of public significance/discussion. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 04:08, 14 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Descent info like Rajput and Jat are considered to be irrelevant for cricketers, and it's not as though Yuvraj has gotten himself invovled in these matters. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 04:09, 14 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Dont include Yuvraj Singh in Indian sikhs. This is disputed, Yuvraj has never stated openly that he is a sikh >>>>reply<<<<< Yuvraj is a Jat Sikh cricket player. He is a sikh not rajput sikh. "Singh". This is a disputed matter and it shouldnt be included without verifiable information. —Preceding unsigned comment added by IntrepidSoldier (talkcontribs) 17:56, 14 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Height? It is important and people want to know

edit

In practically every sports, height is recorded. Sachin Tendulkar's page and Dhoni's page has height on it. And of course soccer, Tiger Woods, David Beckham. So can we please find out his height and put it on his page like Michael Jordan.

Lot of work required

edit

The article is in a not so good condition. Under the heading 2005-2006: revival in form should contain only his performances from 2005-2006 but his whole career after 2005 is under that heading. So is anyone interested in teaming up or helping in sorting things out here? Anyhow i'll be doing it as soon as possible but it will be better if someone helps me out here.Abhinav0908 (talk) 20:11, 13 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Honorary Doctorate

edit

As per media reports, Yuvraj received an honorary doctorate from ITM University (Gwalior). Any reason why this is not in the article? I am not editing the article as I don't know whether there is a background for not adding or removing this.
