In answer to your question: The liquid cooled version was the RD350LC (affectionately known as the 'Elsie' in the UK). This was later given a massive improvement by the development of the Yamaha Power Valve System - adding the letters YPVS to the model. This model continued in production well into the eighties. Production was continued in Brazil for a time with a much improved twin headlamp facelift. However a dramatic decrease in build quality sealed the demise initially started by tighter emission controls. Of course the model letters may well have been different in different countries.

I was interested to read the comments about the RD model designation. While not in a position to gainsay the Yamaha mechanic quoted, I distinctly remember the RD designation being marketed in the UK as "Race Developed" (which is one of the explanations mentioned in the preamble on this subject). Colour Range

I had a 1973 model and it had a metallic dark green tank - not mentioned in the available colours here.

Also, I don't know if it was a design fault or just my bike, but the slides in the carbs had a tendency to stick in wet weather. The throttle cable would pull them up but they relied on gravity to lower them when you closed the throttle, so in wet weather after you'd opened the throttle wide open the power would stay on when you closed it. If it happened when you tried to change gear you were in big trouble, as the revs would jump to maximum when the clucth was pulled and it was impossible to get it into another gear. Once when this happened, the spark plugs must have got so hot that when I turned off the key it kept going - the spark plugs were acting like glow plugs! I had to turn off the petrol tap to starve the carbs to stop it, waiting for it to blow up until it ran out of petrol. That was a not fun! Pedrocelli 03:13, 2 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Maybe an early-model fault inherited from the YR5? - I had a hybrid bike with a YR5 engine at one time which also had some carb problems if cables not kept well-oiled and the rubber boots at the bottom of the carb cables well-seated.
