Hey Hey Hey is a single

Someone please add this to Katy Perry's page and make a page for it — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.109.118.90 (talk) 16:48, 22 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Not done there is no officially confirmed release date for the track. Only a music video has been released so far, which IS NOT the same thing as a single release. Also, single release (or lack thereof) isn't an automatic indicator of whether something should have an article; what matters is that a song have enough independent coverage from credible secondary sources outside of album reviews that aren't publications closely affiliated with the artist. See WP:Notability (music)#Songs for more. Snuggums (talk / edits) 16:54, 22 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Composition

edit

I cannot edit the article to do it myself since, while I have been on Wikipedia for more than 30 days, I don't have 500 edits yet, but I think the section Composition needs some expansion. Album articles tend to describe all songs or at least most of them, but this one stops at track 6 ("Power") for some reason, even though Witness contains 15 songs (or even 17 on some editions). Bizarre BizarreTalk modern to me 16:11, 12 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

I agree that it's incomplete and needs more elaboration, and will probably expand it once I have enough resources and time unless someone else beats me to it. Snuggums (talk / edits) 16:32, 12 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

"Best album"?

edit

Why is the album called her best album here?! Wikipedia is supposed to be objective, so that is absolutely inacceptable. NayruLink (talk) 14:35, 18 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Nowhere it is mentioned that Witness is her best album, where did you even read such statement? —IB [ Poke ] 15:40, 18 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
If I type in a word in the search bar, it shows me articles that fit to these words. If I search Witness, it says there "Witness (Katy Perry album)" and under it "Katy Perry's best album.". I don't know how else to explain it, just type in Witness and there you have it. NayruLink (talk) 11:51, 19 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
No it does not show that anywhere, stop daydreaming. —IB [ Poke ] 13:04, 19 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
@IndianBio: It does indeed show that if you search at the www.wiki.x.io portal or on the mobile site. I'll fix it. Jc86035 (talk) 14:44, 19 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
Oh its on the Portal? That's why I can't find it searching in this article. —IB [ Poke ] 14:50, 19 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
@IndianBio: It was the description on the Wikidata item. NayruLink, see WP:Short descriptions. Jc86035 (talk) 14:59, 19 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Daydreaming, excuse me?! I was serious and you're bitching around here, thank you very much, you were a great help! Not. Gladly it was changed now, I had no idea how to change it. NayruLink (talk) 16:10, 19 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

It was not in this article as I explained before and the same has been corroborated by Jc86035. Hell it was not even in the en.wiki url, it was the front end portal. I can understand you have no clue regarding where you have seen it, but your opening post said you are seeing it in this article. —IB [ Poke ] 17:07, 19 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

I did not write "In this article", I wrote "here" not knowing how to call the description. NayruLink (talk) 16:43, 12 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Commercial Performance

edit

I'm sure this is a contentious topic, but I think it should be mentioned that the album has been less commercially successful than either Perry or her label anticipated. The album has had poor longevity on WW charts, is her first album to not produce a #1 let alone a Top 3 in the US, and hasn't reached 1M sales WW yet.

She talks about it here: http://popcrush.com/katy-perry-depression-details-quotes/

The head of her record label, Capitol, also talked about it here: https://variety.com/2018/music/news/steve-barnett-capitol-interview-katy-perry-niall-horan-1202660297/

I get that with Stan culture this could be a contentious addition, but I think it's worth evaluating. User:Heartgears (talk) 15:38, 17 July 2018 (EST)

First of all, PopCrush isn't exactly a good source to use per WP:ALBUMAVOID (at least for original reporting), so only the link it leads to (Vogue Australia) would be appropriate to cite if anything. Secondly, it doesn't really matter what an artist or label expects from material commercially, only the actual results of commercial performance are worth mentioning. Third, this would technically be her second album (after Katy Hudson which was far less commercially successful than this) to not have any US top 3 songs, so it's not like this is completely new experience for her. Snuggums (talk / edits) 20:57, 17 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
It under-performing according to expectations, and a third party reporting on it, would make it worthy of inclusion as long as you've got a reliable source to say it (not pop crush). That being said, probably just a vague comment about it (ie it underperformed according Perry/label/whoever - not all the trivia about it being the first album to not have have a #1 single or do this or that.) Sergecross73 msg me 19:39, 18 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
Even with proper sourcing, I fail to see how one's expectations are worth noting when they're purely speculative and aren't concrete details to work with unlike the official results. It's best to just focus on what actually happened. Snuggums (talk / edits) 20:27, 18 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
That doesn’t make any sense. “Speculation” and “expectation” are not the same thing. Measuring expectation versus actual performance is one of the major ways of figuring whether a commercial product is considered a success or failure. Expectation is what gives sales and revenue info context. To one artist, 100,000 sold could be a breakthrough success, while to a famous veteran, it could be a devastating failure. I’m all for ignoring the random expectations of a random blogger or journalist, but Perry or her label’s expectations would be some of the most notable sales commentary in existence for her own releases. Sergecross73 msg me 03:42, 19 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Apologies for interrupting the conversation; I think that a breif sentence on Perry's depression as related to the album would be beneficial either here or on her primary Wikipedia page as it is covered by several news outlets. Aoba47 (talk) 01:45, 20 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I believe that’s worth mentioning too. Sergecross73 msg me 18:39, 20 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Brief article description vandalism

edit

The description that shows up when searching for the album's name has once again been manipulated. It now says "album by Katia Pérez". This is the second time now that it was changed to something wrong, which is completely unacceptable. I don't have enough skills to edit it, so could please someone correct it? Also how can this be prevented? NayruLink (talk) 17:50, 22 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

I don't see that when I go into edit mode. If this does turn up when searching for it, then that's probably something elsewhere gone wrong. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 20:53, 22 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Changes Needed

edit

Witness has since sold 700, 000 copies in the US and should be changed to platinum with the updated sales also China should be added as she was certified 5x platinum there with her album selling 500,000 copied LaVozSA (talk) 10:36, 15 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

@LaVozSA: I just checked RIAA and there is no evidence of US certification. I am not aware of a certifying organization in China, but if you have a reliable source for sales in China, they can be added. --Muhandes (talk) 08:31, 21 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

CHANGES NEEDED

edit

Her record label Capitol has confirmed witness sold over 3 million copies world wide (now 800,000) this needs to be changed also it sold over a million copies in the us KatSwiPerr (talk) 14:42, 2 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Not 800,000 KatSwiPerr (talk) 14:43, 2 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

I would take that with a grain of salt because record companies are known to often inflate their artists' numbers for promotional purposes. Can you find anything not affiliated with Katy or her label that reports such figures? SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 16:33, 2 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Urban Outfitters Vinyl Cover

edit

I was reading the talk page on Smile and it was asked if the vinyl cover of the album should be included in the article. It was brought up that Lana Del Rey's Ultraviolence, Honeymoon and Norman Fucking Rockwell! albums include their respective Urban Outfitters-exclusive covers in their articles. There is an Urban Outfitters-exclusive cover for Witness, and thought it should be included in this article as well. Playking616 (talk) 00:45, 10 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Certifications

edit

Why have the certifications of China, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Central America been included when it has been published by a page whose the source is a random tweet without any credibility?

X2franklop (talk) 20:16, 2 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

I added them. I re-verified information and you're right. Radio Planeta is the third-party reference but they're citing a tweet which seems unreliable. I already delete that info. Thanks, --Apoxyomenus (talk) 20:32, 2 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Issue on Producer(s) list in the infobox

edit

Apparently, under producers section in the album infobox, I can see there are lot of additional, vocals and co- producers. As per the wiki rules, these producers shouldn't be added into this list except main producers. YOÜ AND I baby (talk) 14:27, 1 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

David Rudnick is credited on Wikipedia as having been responsible for the art direction on this album, but he's just tweeted that the person who actually art directed it is Isamaya Ffrench:

https://twitter.com/David_Rudnick/status/1654822122148036609

Can this please be corrected? Smells like content (talk) 12:40, 6 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Just checked the album liner notes. While they list Rudnick's name for "front and back cover art direction", I found no mention of Ffrench there, so I'm not sure how to best implement that. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 15:58, 6 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
