Conflict of interest
editthe reason he took down the conflict of interest in because some of his students caught wind of it and brought it up to him. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.94.59.26 (talk) 21:14, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
The name of user:Hamblinwj implies the account owner is William J. Hamblin himself. This account was created on 13 Jan 2008, but has only ever been used on 26 Feb 2009, and only to edit this article (see that account's contribs). Of the five edits made to this article, three completely erased all mention of controversy or criticism. This smacks of censorship, although I personally feel the criticisms mentioned were overblown and overemphasized. While we should be sensitive to a living person's biography, the criticisms used citations, including one from the LDS Church owned Deseret News. Some sensible coverage of this event should be made, although it doesn't define Hamblin's career or contributions. I can't guarantee I'll find the time to address this. - While certainly a COI may be suspect, I frankly find that the article reads much better now than it did before those edits. If mention must be made, it should be minor, as it is significantly less important (IMO) than his work as a Historian, particularly in the context of his two recent books. Too much weight on the controversy
editJudging by how much time this article devotes to the "butthead" episode, I would think that Hamblin hasn't ever done anything else in his life. I actually hadn't heard of Hamblin or this episode until I stumbled on this article, but after following some of the referenced links, this just sounds like somebody is trying to retaliate against Hamblin by making his entire article focus on the butthead thing. I'll be bold and cut it back a bit. — Preceding unsigned comment added by A10brown (talk • contribs) 18:39, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
