WikiWikiWeb offline and not c2.com in general

I've just been browsing around, and thought to check out the Portland Pattern Repository. Well, the c2.com root index page and pages in the (non-wiki) ppr directory itself are fine, but c2.com/cgi/wiki and c2.com/cgi-bin/wiki (which is what's linked from the PPR index) both return 404s. "Not Found" instead of "Forbidden", so there's definitely something other than overzealous anti-vandalism measures going on. --Proginoskes (talk) 16:46, 31 October 2012 (UTC)

WikiBase?

No updates since December 26?

Not even the Random Articles page - which I believe is updated by a script - has been updated since December 26, 2014. I tried editing the sandbox just now and was told "The WikiWiki Server Can not Process Your Request - Suspicious source (tor.ahbl.org). This information has been logged. We are sorry for any inconvenience." Does anyone have any sources as to what's going on here? Fench (talk) 18:49, 13 January 2015 (UTC)

Visit http://ahbl.org/ and find that the DNS-based blacklists on which the server had relied has since shut down: "Last Notice: Wildcarding of Services Jan 1st". Try e-mailing Ward about it. --Damian Yerrick (talk) 18:26, 25 January 2015 (UTC)

That wiki has since been "federated", whatever that means. See the topic "System Notice" on that wiki for a link. I tried reading it to figure out how it works for authors, and frankly, am confused up the wazoo so far. It uses invented terms to describe other invented terms. It seems participants have to rent servers or become buddies with somebody else who has rented a server. Very odd. I agree that one should be able to own a copy of their content, but renting one's own server to do it strikes me as strange. Maybe that hurdle is a way to filter out riff-raff, but the alleged vandal was not a technical newbie I don't believe. I don't get it. Name in Camel Case or not?

@Scott: thanks for your input on the spelling on the name. You have removed my reference http://wiki.c2.com/?WikiWikiWeb , where Wiki Wiki Web is actually spelled out with normal spacing. Do you have any source to clarify this?--Aeroid (talk) 16:11, 18 September 2019 (UTC)

A search will find you plenty. Here's one at random. The site software renders all page titles by splitting CamelCase words apart, even if they shouldn't be. It's a historic limitation of the wiki engine dating all the way back to 1995.  — Scott • talk 22:38, 18 September 2019 (UTC)

The first sentence of this article is ungrammatical and doesn't make sense The WikiWikiWeb is the first wiki, formerly user-editable website. I would suggest reverting to the older version, The WikiWikiWeb is the first wiki, or user-editable website. which is much more readable and makes it clear what a wiki is.
