What does "I.D." stand for?
editWhat does "I.D." stand for? It is nowhere explicated in the article, as of mid-June 2019. Seems it ought to be expanded (if an acronym) or explained in some way, since the article name is Volkswagen I.D. series. N2e (talk) 16:23, 17 June 2019 (UTC)
- I think it's honestly just a name. I'm considering deleting the quoted explanation from the article. The closest association is Identity (as in id-card). Many automakers number their cars, and usually they slap some characters before or after the number to make it unique. Audi uses an a, bmw Calles it 'series', Merc adds 'class'
- With the id3 the three obviously designates the segment, so it's cheaper and smaller than the id4 but larger/more expensive than a possible id1.
- When it was launched, vw made up some explanation about it being the third big iteration after the beetle being the first and the golf the second. But that's just a story.
