not encyclopedic?

edit

Before the construction of the causeway to Barra, Vatersay lived under the law as many very small islands do. A local police officer would visit the island once a year in order for the local residents to see that mainland Scotland and the Western Isles council hadn't forgotten about them.

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on Vatersay. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:

Is Vatersay in Great Britain?

edit

@User:Portnadler I'm happy to leave the article as it now is, but I would just like to point out that the full name of the UK is 'The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland', and the Wikipedia article to which I had linked states that "Politically, Great Britain refers to the whole of England, Scotland and Wales in combination". I'm more often on the pedantic side of an argument, but I don't think anyone would have been confused by its use with this meaning. Cheers! --Blurryman (talk) 19:44, 5 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

The article on Great Britain starts by stating that it is the main island. By this definition, Vatersay and even the Isle of Wight are not part of Great Britain. However, it later goes on to say that the term can be used to refer to the political entity. At best, it's ambiguous and will lead to endless debates like this. I have tried to side-step the issue by adding a footnote, which I hope is a reasonable compromise. Portnadler (talk) 13:18, 6 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
Yes, it's in Great Britain. We can get all pedantic about a range of stuff, but this is obvious. Blue Square Thing (talk) 13:50, 6 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
The note now added definitely clarifies the situation! --Blurryman (talk) 19:54, 6 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
