Talk:U.S. Route 1 in Maine

Doesn't Route 1 become I-295 N for a few hundred yards (just north of the B&M Baked Beans factory)? - Dudesleeper · Talk 14:49, 28 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Junction list

edit

I have completed the junction list for the highway. Destinations are as signed (meaning they're not listed if they're not signed, as is sometimes the case in town centers). Feel free to improve the style or formatting in the table. Please note that the mileages given are calculated from Google Maps rather than whatever current route log exists. The shorter distance via Google Maps comes most likely from the rerouting of US 1 onto I-295 in Portland. --Ken Gallager (talk) 18:48, 14 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

I found a couple minor things. Now I'm just looking for the missing shield; I found 161B already. –Fredddie 23:26, 14 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Baxter Boulevard in Portland

edit

I must have missed something in the article. When was Baxter Boulevard part of US 1? ---------User:DanTD (talk) 13:47, 16 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Because according to this old postcard, it was at one time.
I'm just guessing here, but probably before Tukey's bridge was built across the mouth of Portland's Back Cove in 1947. A different alignment would have been required before Tukey's bridge was built, and Baxter Boulevard seems a logical choice. Thewellman (talk) 18:51, 16 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
Route 1 was on city streets in Portland until the last few years when it was rerouted onto 295(including Baxter Boulevard). I don't know if there are any sources documenting this. Maybe comparing atlases from one year to another. 331dot (talk) 09:35, 12 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
