Apostrophe?
editGiven that this article was recently moved (to a primary title that includes an apostrophe), I wondered if perhaps there was definitive confirmation that this is correct? I had previously understood (as per the official placenames database and for example the official names of the electoral areas) that the apostrophe was either optional or not overtly part of the name. My understanding of the etymology is that it derived from a bunch of "turners" (wood workers) living in or associated with the area. Rather than that people named "Turner" owned or were associated with the area. While "Turner's Cross" and "Turners Cross" are both common variations, and "Turners' Cross" uncommon, are we happy that the former is the most appropriate (under WP:COMMONNAME) to use here? - No thoughts on this? In honesty if there is no retrospective justification proposed for the previous unilateral move (or objections to reverting that move), I'm inclined to restore to the previous state. While both variations are clearly used, it is my understanding that the non-apostrophe version is likely the most appropriate primary title. Guliolopez (talk) 16:39, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
- Final call before I move it back? Guliolopez (talk) 22:21, 28 June 2016 (UTC)
- Having held for input for ~4 months, and with no other thoughts or objections forthcoming, I've moved this back to the original title. In keeping with placenames commission entries. Guliolopez (talk) 23:13, 7 July 2016 (UTC)
