Getting rid of the Trivia section would help this article along to becoming a B.
>> What about his High School career? Troy went to Douglas High School in Winston/Oregon where he played as both a running back and strong safety for the Douglas Trojans, a 4A school of the 'Far West League' district. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.59.113.42 (talk) 11:16, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

Headline text
editDoes anyone have any proof that he's Catholic, besides him crossing himself after plays? ThatWouldBeSeven 23:59, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
Is a bit about last week's interception overrule really necessary? I mean, the guy's been in the league for two years, certainly this is not one of the only things we can say about him. 129.173.185.53 23:07, 19 January 2006 (UTC)
It might be more pertinent if it were mentioned as being part of the larger question of officiating quality this past year. I will re-spin it. Tlesher 18:56, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
Last I heard you did not have to be catholic to believe in the trinity...hes Christian
Troy routinely discusses & quotes Catholic persons, in particular Mother Theresa, when describing his personal relationship with God. That would imply that he is Catholic, as most members of other Christian sects tend to use examples that are not Catholic.
I edited "College Career" because it had been vandalized with:

Is there a formal way to report vandalism, or should you simply edit it out (as I did)?
Troy Polamalu is my favorite football player of all time because not only is he great, but his life isn't all about football. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.144.146.77 (talk) 18:29, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
religion
editI don't know Troy's true religion, but I can say that Eastern Orthodox as mentioned in the article is NOT Catholic. "Christian" and "Catholic" are not interchangeable. But more importantly perhaps, Troy is not a religious leader--he's a professional football player. Orthodox religions are catholic just not Roman.Maybe the article should stick to his confirmable and relevant on-field performance. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.222.182.79 (talk) 05:47, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
it's amusing he says it doesn't matter whether he is protestant or catholic, when the article goes on to imply he is orthodox... granted those are not his words, but it sure is a good thing he's not protestant or catholic considering he's orthodox.
Allegedly - Polamalu married into a Greek Orthodox family, and converted...

Missing Games
editSomeone says that Polamalu missed his first two pro games in 2006? Didn't he have a hamstring injury during his first year in the league? Didn't that lead to him missing practically the whole season?
Pronunciation
editI believe that the NFL game press kits report the pronunciation of his last name more like pole-ah-MALL-oo. In any case, the pronunciation(s) given needs attribution, and should be in IPA format. — brighterorange (talk) 22:40, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
- I thought it was paul-ah-MALL-oo. Well, that's how I say it down here in West Virgina. --Crash Underride 06:18, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
WHY is this article x-ref'd under Asian Americans? Troy is a SAMOAN, and Samoans are NOT Asian!!
Quite Frankly, yes asian is our race...Samoans Asian race doesn't have to be only orientals..Do some more research buddy. Asians are pacific islanders, And Samoa is in the Pacific Duh —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.60.130.68 (talk) 02:06, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
Asians are not Pacific Islanders. Pacific Islanders are Pacific Islanders. Sāmoans are Pacific Islanders. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.175.70.3 (talk) 17:22, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
Legal name
editIn the headline, it says that he was BORN Troy Benjamin Polamalu, but later in the article it states that he changed his name from Troy Aumua to Troy Polamalu, which is a contradiction.69.12.231.149 (talk) 03:19, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

edityeah but doesnt samoa belong to america DCsniper207 (talk) 17:55, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Second paragraph of Troy's college career has something wrong, but I don't know what's even trying to be said. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.91.107.254 (talk) 13:12, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
Weasel wordings
editI am concerned that this article is full of non-neutral language. It needs to be addressed or removed. Being an anon editor, I don't feel comfortable making a lot of changes that are likely to be reverted simply because I am an anon. Anyway, an example of this non neutral language:
- "Polamalu's blend of speed, anticipation, and instinct makes him a standout player who is involved in a high percentage of defensive plays. The Steelers often use Polamalu in different packages. He may blitz the quarterback, come on a delayed blitz, or pretend to blitz and drop back into coverage, confusing the quarterback. Polamalu often adds to the quarterback's confusion by turning around and walking away from the line of scrimmage before the snap."
That isn't neutral, and is pretty clearly biased language. Also, the article tells us nothing about the guy himself, Why is his birth name different than his current one? These would seem more pertinent. - 207.181.229.217 (talk) 17:50, 19 November 2009 (UTC)
I don't see what's so "biased" about it. He's obviously a fantastic player who is known for making key plays based often on his snap judgement(diving to a hole early, jumping routes, etc.). He's also obvious involved in various defensive packages that move him all over the field that put him in position to do everything listed in the paragraph in question. So I ask, what is so "biased" about it? 76.17.22.208 (talk) 07:58, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
The Reason That Troy Polamalu crosses himself after he says a Prayer
editThe reason that Troy Polamalu crosses himself is after he says a pray, asking God not to let anyone on both teams not to get hurt. I seen where Terry Bradshaw ( a former Steeler player ) was making fun about Troy Polamalu, Terry was going on & on crossing himself and laughing at Troy. I dont respect Terry anymore, from him actting like a crazy man. I'm sure that Terry is not a Christian by the way he makes fun of Troy Polamalu. Troy Polamalu is a strong Christian. I am a Steeler Fan, born near Pitts,Pa. the reason that Troy Polamalu is my Favorite Steeler Player is that he is not afraid about being a Christian. College days
editI noticed there is no mention of him rooming with Bengals QB Carson Palmer and Chiefs QB Matt Cassel when he was at USC, despite being listed on both of their respective pages. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.122.84.116 (talk) 12:15, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
Logical impossibility
editWhat moron "contributed" this to this article:
In the spring of 2008, NFLShop.com reported that Polamalu's #43 jersey was the #1 selling jersey in the NFL. The only Pittsburgh Steeler to sell more was Ben Roethlisberger's #7 jersey, at the 10th spot.
Most six-year olds could spot that inconsistency. If not fixed soon, I'll delete the whole paragraph. 98.71.218.226 (talk) 08:14, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
- I looked into it, turned out to be the result of vandalism. Will now repair. 98.71.218.226 (talk) 08:19, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
Surname
editIn the section 'Personal Life', the names 'Polamalu' and 'Polamulu' are used interchangeably. I'm not sure if this is a typo or other mistake, or if it's possible to spell the name both ways, but this needs some kind of clarification. Richard Jackson (talk) 18:49, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry, my mistake when I was rewriting the section yesterday. I'm surprised I made the misspelling so many times, but it was just a result of not being familiar with the man until I read (or tried to read) the article. Propaniac (talk) 14:47, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
